Awesome Reboot!
I don't know what people mean when they say that this movie doesn't have a plot. Is it that it doesn't have the same plot as the original movie? Because it doesn't, and thank god for that. The original was awesome! But this isn't a remake, it's a reboot, with its own original characters and story. I think many people went into the movie expecting it to be the original, except with four women instead of four men. And, let's face it, it wouldn't have worked if they'd done that.Hell, it wouldn't have worked if they'd done the movie with four men and tried to rehash the original. You have to play to your cast's strengths when making a film, no matter what it is, and that's exactly what the people behind the new Ghostbusters did.To summarize the plot (which is very alive - again, despite reviews to the contrary) Abby Yates decides to re-publish a book that was written by herself and a colleague (Erin Gilbert) years ago. When Erin finds it, she confronts Abby, who has teamed up with an engineer (Jillian Holtzmann) to create weapons to fight the paranormal. At the same time, a guy named Rowan (who has acquired the book) is plotting to use the books theories to break the barrier between the ghost world and the physical world and bring about a new apocalypse. One of his devices is found by Patty Tolan, a historian, who adds her incredible knowledge of the city to the team. Thus, the Ghostbusters are born. They are not an instant success. They have to overcome doubt by the general population, as well as a governmental coverup that threatens to shut them down before they've even really begun. They also have to face everyday annoyances, such as the fact that rent at an actually base of operations is too much for a fledgling operation to afford. But they persist. Without them, the world would be doomed.I love that the casting director didn't hire the most physically able women possible. I feel like I can identify with the characters, and I love them. Instead of doing outlandish stunts, they four main characters perform feats they are physically capable of doing. It gets a little hokey at times, but that's just Ghostbusters for you. It's cute, it's awesome, and it's compelling. I was a fan before this, but I didn't truly love the franchise before I saw this movie. I highly recommend it!

On a Ghostbusters movies binge and this movie was super cute! I love the actresses and the ghost theme! These are just fun movies for "kids" of all ages. I enjoy the new characters intermingled with the legendary actors from the originals!! :)

Fun reboot and an awesome cast
I really hope that they go on to make a successful set of films out of these characters. While a reboot isn't how I'd do things: the film scored what it needed to do: entertain me longer than it takes to eat a popcorn. I was very entertained--enough to pre-order the Blu-ray.Comedy just seems to flow pretty well with this group and the script crosses the chuckle streams quite well for my tastes. I laughed much. They all make a great team. I'm especially fond of Holtz (McKinnon) and Patty (Jones) -- they're such wonderfully comedic characters; while Erin (Wiig) and Abby (McCarthy) help balance the act and still keep us laughing. The film is far better with them, such an awesome cast IMHO.I highly recommend sitting through the entire credits. If Chris Hemsworth's music video doesn't make you laugh: there's a lovely nugget afterwards for folks who like certain Ghostbuster jokes. I look forward to that being a subject for a sequel film :D.In addition to seeing the dedication "For Harold Ramis" at the end, camos cover just about everyone of consequence save Rick Moranis: who is pretty damned retired. The cameos, everyone of them are freaking great. I had to stop myself from clapping and cheering during the Stay Puff scene and the end villain's form rather reminds me of Ray Stantz in the facials. Kate McKinnon may also stand next to Dan Aykroyd as my favourites of the Ghostbusters. Her role was pure awesomeness. All in all a very fun afternoon movie.

so fun!
ooohhhhh the controversy!!i cannot think of any other movie lately that has been so surrounded by controversy like this one!!!!confession #1 not a big fan of the original. not at all. i remember watching it as a kid but i cant remember what i thought about it. so i tried to watch it again this year. nope! not for me! could not get passed the first 15 minutes.confession #2 i had no interest in seeing this. i love kristen wiig and melissa mccarthy, and i was so happy when i heard they were going to be on it, BUT i don't like leslie jones. i usually dont watch movies if i don't like an actor in it. even if it's just one actor.that's pretty much the reason why the move came and went in the theaters and i had no interest in watching it.but then... the drama surrounding this movie got a bit close to home when some friends of mine got some backlash reactions for being completely against it.it got me so curious. i mean... i couldn't be that bad! not worse than the original IMO loli rented it with extremely low expectations. actually, no expectations AT ALL!my facebook timeline had been full of bad reviews and 98% of my friends hated the movie. how could i expect anything good from it right????WOW!!! talk about much ado for nothing huh???THE MOVIE IS GREAT! fun! so entertaining. i even enjoyed leslie jones!having the roles reversed for a change, the hot dumb blond being a man, was super refreshing and so funny!!!!!i really liked this movie and have no clue why there was so much drama about it!

Ghostbusters
I bought this movie because I am a fan of the Ghostbusters live movies. I am very happy. This is the 3rd movie of the series with a twist, 3 females are the Ghostbusters, while the 1 male is the secretary.

You Just Got Holtzmanned, Baby!
Not only is this movie far better than the original Ghostbusters, it's a groundbreaking portrayal of women in film. The sad part about the extended version is it adds in Erin's jerk boyfriend, who was cut out of the theatrical release. Though an amusing addition--and no offense to Justin Kirk or his performance as Phil--the film holds up better overall as a realistic approach to women trying to get stuff done without worrying about pleasing men when none of them has a love interest (a male one, anyway) taking away from their screen time. Much better reviewers and meta-writers than I am have written volumes on why this movie is important for women and the portrayal of women by Hollywood, so all I will say is that the anti-Ghostbusters hype, like the fake news in your Facebook feed all year, is complete bull. A knee-jerk reaction of the patriarchy to a work of art that doesn't play to or idealize men and manhood.Kate McKinnon wins the hearts of all women ever (even the straight ones) with her portrayal of the lesbian character missing from the Big Bang Theory cast in this film. Queer representation, you say? Surely no straight men will object to that and vilify a film they never saw because of it!Do yourself a favour and watch this movie. You won't regret it.An important note to parents: This film IS a safe watch for child viewers (if they can handle ghosts). UNLIKE the original franchise, which was full of the locker room humour that made Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd famous.

Decent concept derailed by rambling line-o-rama "comedy"
There is plenty of potential here. The special effects are decent to good (the CGI did not bother me). The villain was interesting. His plan was original and made sense as it came together. At the times when they focus on plot in lieu of the line-o-rama ad lib riffing, the movie is solid. Particularly enjoy the relationships with Holtzman and her co-workers (the established supportive friendship with Abby being a particular favorite, but her interest in/ developing friendship with Patty), perhaps because she was by far my favorite character. Unfortunately, too much time was wasted with prolonged asides where the actresses are obviously just riffing on set kill the momentum and, more often than not, are not funny enough to warrant such indulgences. This is particularly noticeable with Kristen Wiig's character, Erin. She is bland, she is rambling, she is unfunny (I cannot think of a single joke for her that lands), she has no discernible personality to speak of, and, sadly, she seems to be intended as the main character whose journey from self-hating, repressed, former "ghost girl" to self-confident, kickass, and proud Ghostbuster, we are meant to follow throughout the course of the movie. I couldn't have cared less and, honestly, just wanted her gone. Although there were significant enough problems elsewhere that I know it would not have "saved" the movie, I just kept wishing that Wiig was not there. Even the intentionally annoying and too-dumb-to-live Kevin was not nearly as grating as Abby, although he had his moments especially with a stupid prolonged sandwich scene at the end of the movie that is completely unnecessary. If, by some miracle, there is a sequel in this rebooted franchise's future, maybe we can just send Abby and Kevin off on a vacation far, far off camera so that the real characters can have some space to kick ghost ass. ...Ripping a hole through dimensions, the space-time continuum, or a wall in Columbia Pictures backlot a'la Blazing Saddles so that we get a crossover with the remaining "Real Ghostbusters" would also be appreciated.

Not Recommended
Mostly, not funny.Poor script.Bad directing. Many times, the story lacked a sense of urgency - despite the scenes obviously called for it.The movie could have used A LOT more humour. Also, the editor of this film seemed lost. A big dance scene, for instance, was edited out, but parts were included during the closing credits - which seemed out of place! Conversely, the location, in the show, where the dance should have occurred seemed missing something and, thereby, weird. In addition, the makers of this film seemed to be trying to live past glories by dropping many references to the original "Ghostbusters" movie, in this version.Overall, however, it was disappointing!
