## Description

Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this album from the Disco/R&B diva. Donna Summer gained prominence during the 1970s Disco era, propelled by her incessant and creative driving force behind the genre's global popularity, rightly earning the title Queen of Disco and becoming one of the most successful recording artists of the entire decade. I'm a RAINBOW was the second album recorded for Geffen Records and due for release 1981/1982 but was shelved at the time, as David Geffen wanted to bring in Quincy Jones to produce the album that became DONNA SUMMER. I'm a RAINBOW, which was produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, was eventually released in it's entirety in 1996. The album was originally intended to be Donna Summer's fourth double-album and as such, this re-issue is released as originally configured, as two CDs, representing each of the Record One and Record Two sequence.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The story behind I'm a Rainbow
*by M***O on September 16, 2015*

This is an album that is a must for all Donna Summer fans to have in your collection. Especially the vinyl version. The story behind this collection is that Donna continued to branch out musically and this was the project that showcased her efforts. It's a little a bit of everything, some 80s style rhythm, ballads and poppy tunes. But I must confess a bit all over the place in style and writing, but it is catchy and worth a listen. The album however was shelved by David Geffen - Geffen Records. Who decided to scrap the project as he thought it was not going to be commercial hit and hired Quincy Jones for the replacement record. Thus ended the Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte super team. Although the over produced Quincy Jones self titled album was a hit, it has been noted that Donna was not happy with the scrapping of I'm a Rainbow, as it was a very personal record for her, hence a very difficult relationship with Geffen for the next several years. This album is unique and clearly demonstrates Summers voice, writing and skills that makes each song hers. Several tracks were later released on movie sound tracks like Flashdance and Fast Times at Ridgmont High, and covers by a few artists, that had fans yearn for more. In 1996 the album was released to great fanfare and the fans finally got the Donna we all love. So sit back, relax and listen to one of her best albums released. Now it's 2015 and the vinyl version is in my collection. Happy listening.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What you get is not what was represented…
*by A***R on October 26, 2021*

Loving this reimagined version of Donna’s Rainbow. But, the product description says in multiple places that this is 2 discs/180g double album when it’s actually the single vinyl disc. Also, the color of the vinyl is a disappointing dark blue compared to the more appropriate blue shown on the product page. Just beware of what you’re actually getting for the list price of $33!Also, the Auto-Rip is for the wrong version and needs to be updated to the reimagined version.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Emotional Album !!
*by N***O on April 28, 2014*

Originally scheduled for release in 1981, the double-album I'm a Rainbow was shelved at the last minute. In the proocess, it became legendary among Donna Summer fanatics. In 1996, I'm a Rainbow was finally released as a single compact disc. Like most of Summer's recordings from the late '70s and early '80s, it was produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, who give the stylish disco a sleek, sexy sheen. The difference between I'm a Rainbow and its predecessors -- and, indeed, its sequels -- is the subject matter. Throughout I'm a Rainbow, Summer turns in some of her most personal, introspective lyrics and singing, which gives the album an emotional force her albums sometimes lacked. In fact, given the quality of the music, it's hard to see why this was shelved at the time because it is stronger than the majority of her official studio albums.
