Post Hand Surgery
In April 2013, I had surgery for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) for numbness in my dominant hand, which resulted in significant hand weakness. Also, an MRI taken November 2013 revealed arthritis in the wrist of the same hand. Only in the past few months have I been able to hold anything over 15 pounds without moderate hand and wrist pain, and playing my guitar has been difficult because of cramping in the hand. I had been using a foam stress ball to build some hand and forearm strength, and for a while it was adequate. After looking on Amazon's list of hand strengtheners, and reading the reviews, I decided to order the Gripmaster Pro with 11 pounds of tension. Eleven pounds doesn't sound that much, but compressing the individual spring-loaded finger piston pads provides sufficient tension to give each finger a good workout. After receiving the Gripmaster Pro, it appeared to be well-constructed and capable of relatively long-term use. The first time I used it, I felt on the lower end of mild to moderate pain in my dominant hand and I wasn't able to completely compress the finger pistons. (I do recommend that you lightly stretch the muscles in your hands and forearms before and after each time you use the Gripmaster.) Over the next few weeks, the pain lessened and my grip became stronger as the muscles in my forearms became more conditioned. After nearly 3 weeks of consistently exercising both hands with the Gripmaster my grip is significantly stronger, and this past weekend I was able to help carry cafeteria size tables a short distance with no relatively no hand pain. The wrist pain persists, but I've been taking methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 1000 mg for the past month and it seems to help. Now, I use the Gripmaster several times throughout the day to continue conditioning my hands and forearms to improve my grip. This was a good purchase, and I recommend it without reservation. Also, if you have a similar history as mine, I do recommend that you consult with a physical therapist for the best hand strengthening system for your hands. Hope this was helpful.

Not for the Faint of Hand
SHORT REVIEW: Do not purchase unless you already have seriously strong fingers; will provide a strenuous challenge for individual fingers. Should provide a moderate challenge for those just interested in working on full-hand grips. Five stars for utility and quality. LONG REVIEW: If you're like I was, you probably think the Gripmaster series is for strengthening your grip. This is one of the uses of the Gripmaster, but the intended use is improving individual finger/thumb strength. Sure, the individual tension pads should be a dead giveaway, but Gripmaster ships with limited instructions on how to use it. Prohands clearly hopes that you will take an extra five minutes to visit prohands.net to see their 11 exercises. I would recommend visiting the site: many of the exercises are not intuitive and will come as a pleasant surprise. My favorite exercises work the daylights out of the thumb, a great help for a console gamer such as myself. With that said, this model has 11 pounds per pad. I thought I had a strong grip (I've used traditional "nutcracker" grip strengtheners for years), but when this model broke down my grip into individual fingers, a little humbling was in order. If you have a weak grip and want to improve individual fingers, I would advise starting with light or medium tension, and work your way up the tension scale. This model is not the place to start. Two final notes: Pro Gripmaster models are bulkier than the "regular" variety and have rubbery covers on the pads. I don't believe there's a difference in pad tension (i.e., Extra-Heavy is going to be 11 pounds per pad on both models), so if you have smaller hands - or just want to save a few bucks - the regular Gripmaster line should do the trick. Finally, both Pro and regular models are extremely well-made devices and appear to be relatively indesctructible.

Nice Grip Strengthener!!!
I bought this Gripmaster Pro Hand Strengthening System, Extra-Heavy Tension (11 Pounds per Finger) to help improve finger speed, strength and dexterity while playing Keyboard, Guitar, and Bass. I have not played in about 10 years so my hands have become a bit stiff and tire easy. The Gripmaster Pro provides a comfortable workout for the hands. Being able to work on all the fingers individually lets you concentrate on the weaker part of your hands, for me the rig finger and pinky finger. The pads on the finger springs help to improve finger calluses and keep the fingers from slipping off the pistons easily. Discipline and consistency are keys to getting results, I have to get better with the frequency of my workouts, but the device does seem to be making a difference. The Gripmaster allows more isolation of specific area than does the hand resistance grip type of exercisers that have handles.

It works and you can easily keep it with you at all times
Prohands offers two types of hand exercisers. I have bought both types. The smaller "grip master" fits my medium hands very well. But because it is small, my hands hurt after long usage. Prohands website shows many different ways to use it. I only use one type of exercise. Just a basic hand squeeze. The larger "PRO" type completely fills my hands. The size is on the borderline of being too big for my medium size hands. The larger size is wider and therefore does not hurt my hands. Both sizes fit into a shirt or pants pocket. Any exerciser you truly use will show results. Because of its size, convenience of keeping it with you, the ability to use it anywhere, and the fact that it dose not hurt when using it, you will truly use this hand exerciser and you will get results. I am 69 years old and my forearms are rock hard. I bought the "extra heavy tension" because the "heavy tension" is no longer challenging for me any more. This is my forth Prohands exerciser. Two are the smaller gripmaster (one "medium tension", one "heavy tension") and two are the larger PRO (one "heavy tension", one "extra heavy tension"). Only the smaller "heavy duty" grip master wore out before I was ready to increase the strength. I also have the basic "A" shaped squeeze hand grip. It is not covenant to carry with me therefore, I use it sparingly at home. I do prefer the pro hands. If you are asking "Why a 69 year old is doing hand exercises?" Both hands were injured in ant auto accident by an air bag.

Excellent gripper
I was having some hand issues and decided to start strengthening them up. I began with the standard Gripmaster (also very good products) in the medium tension, then moved up to the heavy tension. That got my hands even stronger so I thought I would go for this Pro model to keep increasing strength even more. I bought two so I can go simultaneously. These are very nicely made and the extra-heavy tension is just right for my now greatly improved hand strength. I play the guitar and these devices have helped enormously with my hand strength and endurance while playing. Hint - if you reverse the grip (hold the base in your fingers and work one of the individual finger springs with your thumb) it makes a perfect exercise to strengthen your thumb muscles as well. I recommend all the Gripmaster products - they have done a lot of good for me and are very well made. This model should last me for a long time. If somehow I wear them out I will absolutely buy new ones.

Great product but..."Extra Heavy" means "Extra Heavy"
I ordered this guy to improve my finger strength for climbing. I'll admit it...I overestimated my own strength and got the "extra heavy" tension resistance model. I should have purchased the "heavy" tension model instead and worked my way up. I want to be clear though, its a great product. If you create a plan (some are included and available online) and adhere to regimented usage of this device, you will see solid results. I've have noticed a huge progression on pinch holds. It's sturdy and the springs seem to maintain their tension fairly well. I've taken it out on field training exercises (Army) and its been bounced and thrown around in a ruck with no noticeable damage at all. Bottom line, you may want to work your way up to this level of tension and "spring" for the heavy tension model. Either way you won't be upset with the long term results. It's a great device for climbers looking to improve their overall hand strength.

Great. Consider a bundle.
These and Digi-flex are great. Consider a bundle. Started with my wife's 7lb but too light. Got a 9lb. In a month stepped up to 11lb. In another month stepped up to 13lb. Don't forget to reverse to work thumb.

Great Product With Many Options
Very great product. To give you an idea on whether to buy this or not. I say get this item because its great. It is much smaller than shown in the picture above because each of those pads at the top of the gripmaster is for a finger. Therefore making it comfortable for a "hand sized device". You get to exercise each finger according to your liking and there are about 11 exercises you can do with this nifty thing. Its the heaviest of the set of hand strengthening devices so if you would want to start a little smaller I suggest getting the 7 or 9 pounders. I would like to say that you could get the same if not better results by doing finger push ups. But there are a few exercises that this device can do to strengthen the entire hand itself. Very great product overall and I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get stronger hands overall (including palm, fingers, ect.) Hope this review was helpful in deciding your purchase!

I feel so strong!
Why yes, I have been working out! Thanks for noticing! My grip strength is so strong I’ve made grown men cry by handshake and I can do pull ups with my middle finger. Most of the above is a lie, but this grip strengthener is pretty great! There are a few different exercises you can do with this vs a traditional grip strengthener and can focus more on one or two digits. Tension is pretty high and after 30 or 40 reps of an exercise it will start to burn. I keep it in my car for rush hour traffic.

Muy buena compra pero...
Es muy buen producto, alta calidad y buena resistencia, pero recomiendo que compren de baja tensió ya que el de 11 LB es relativamente duro y no es posible hacer todos los ejercicios

My second purchase.
I bought the 'Heavy' version of this several months ago. I've mastered that so I'm now stepping up to the next level. I extolled the virtues of this gadget in a previous review and my view hasn't changed; you can do a surprising number of exercises if you check the Pro Hands website for more exercises than those in the leaflet that comes with the hand exerciser. It's easy to use and can be carried around and used in any location. It increases strength in the fingers, hand, wrist and arm easily and steadily for any number of situations where you need to increase strength. In summary, a low-priced, sturdy and well made piece of equipment. You will love it.

excellent appareil
