Well, turned out to be best case.. The thumb screws let's you lock down the adjustments, so they don't slide. The cork grip is very comfortable (I prefer cork) and the lower grip works great when you need it. I'm 6'2", so I have them pretty well extended. This last hike I went up (and back down) about 1000 feet of vertical averaging around 35 degree slope... On loose rock. Couple moments I put my weight in these (177) and they held strong. Comes with a variety of tips if needed, which is great. My only "issue" which happens for me and trekking poles, is when they are extended, and I'm going at a faster pace, they have a lot of vibration. But almost all aluminum poles have that to a degree. It's certainly not annoying or something I'd pay three times the money to get rid of. If you know how to use trekking poles, these will serve you well. If you're learning.. They're a good set to start.. So if you do plant at a bad angle, you won't worry about bending them. (also, with aluminum poles, you can heat and bend back as long as they are not crimped) For the money, I'm more than satisfied. Update: so, I've used these for about 50 miles or so, in steep, uneven terrain. They are solid. No damage, bends, or problems.
