Holds the flag securely. Had to use this style rather than the typical 2-position base because I needed to attach the flag to the side wall of our porch, not the front wall...meaning that I had to attach the base to the wall at a slight angle, then put the holder in the 'flat' position. Worked great. Saw a few comments about breakage, so we'll see how it holds up in a strong wind, which is common here in Tennessee. I have an idea that those complaints involved large flags. Our flag is small...like our house. :-) The glossy black color matches the pole we got.
