I already owned a dedicated Myerchin marlinspike, but I wanted something I could carry on me more easily and have readily available when I needed it. I don't often have a need for a marlinspike, but when you need one you tend to want it right away. I looked at a variety of options and finally chose the Myerchin Crew Pro for its size and the reviews about its quality of construction. There are considerably cheaper options out there for a folding marlinspike, but I wanted something that would last, small in configuration for EDC, and the integrated shackle key was a real plus for the small shackles I work with. I opted for the G10 scales for price, weight, and longevity. The bone scales appealed to me for aesthetics, but this was to be a working knife in hard conditions and I was concerned about wet/dry cycles impacted wood or bone over time.The fit and finish on the knife are good, though not perfect, as would be expected for a knife in this price range. The screws on mine were not all exactly set to the same depth, but they seem to function just fine. Out of the box there was a considerable burr on one side of the edge at the tip of my knife beyond the serrated edge. With a couple of swipes of a diamond steel the burr was gone and the knife was paper-cutting sharp, needing no more work. I ran my steel down each serration as well, just to be sure. The clip is only blade tip down for pocket carry. The clip is a little less tight than I like, but adequate. The tip down configuration suits me, but it is your only option. I carry it in my back right pocket, which gives me a good extraction grip for opening the marlinspike. The marlinspike can be opened one-handed, but for me it takes some effort to push it out by forcing your thumb nail down into the groove, and it likely would not be possible with gloves on. The knife blade is also a little stiff to open one-handed, but is much easier if you give an assist with your forefinger on the opposite side of your thumb. Lock up feels very secure with no discernible play. With some practice either the blade or marlinspike can be closed one-handed with the liner lock, but one-handed closing would be very difficult if not impossible with gloves on.I like the small size for easy carry, but the handle is a bit small for a full grip with my men's medium sized hands. My pinkie only gets a partial grip on the handles. The rest of the grip is quite good ergonomically for my hand. And there is jimping on the choil which allows for a very secure hold chocking up that gives even the pinkie a good grip the handle, likely even for slightly larger hands. The smooth curve of the marlinspike feels good and secure against the palm when using the knife blade.All-in-all I'm happy with the purchase. It's a quality tool and will likely suit your needs if you want a marlinspike in a folder. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ knives *by A***2 on June 6, 2014* Excellent knife for what I wanted.
