## Questions & Answers

**Q: What oar diameter size can this hold? Thanks**
A: As they are, you can fit them on 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" diameter. If you have larger diameter oars, exchange the top bolt for a slighly longer one. I made my own 8' oars with larger than 2" shafts and oversized blades to suit my 6.5 foot, 300 pound frame. With a slightly longer top bolt, these held up fine, lasting longer than my use of the dory I had built.

**Q: How long is the stem on the base?**
A: It's a smidge over 2". These are plenty durable too. I have them on some hand made oars that have 2" shafts and 6"x 20" blades. I'm a big guy at 6'-5", 290 lbs. These have taken some abuse rowing 50+ miles in a 600 lb row boat outside of Alamitos bay, to and around the Long Beach breakwater and islands inside the breakwater. There's no hole for a retainer pin at the bottom of the shaft which is good or bad depending on your mount.

**Q: what part number is for 3/4 " to 1 " Shaft size**
A: None.

**Q: Does it come in a pair? Doesn't specify?**
A: It is come in pare.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stout build customizable for 2" oar shafts
*by S***T on June 7, 2018*

I had a difficult time finding oar locks to work on a pair of oars I had made with 2" shafts. Other makes had thinner steel. I questioned the purchase. When they showed up, I was very pleased. They are as stout as I am, 6'-5" 280 pounds! I had snapped a bronze U oar lock a few months back. The ring oar locks with oar stops beat the crap out of the wood i put the locks into. These clamp on the oars to eliminate slip and the inherent hammering of the oar and stop against the oar lock and boat body. Feathering the oars isn't something I bother with on my little fishing boat. Having the oarlocks clamped in place also eliminates the occasional chin strike that happens when reeling in a fish while being slammed by the 2' wake of a 40 foot yacht.

### ⭐ not for shoreline oars
*by E***R on March 27, 2013*

this time Amazon let me down. These oarlocks adjust to a minimum of 1.5". The shoreline 6' aluminum oars have a 1.25" shaft. Which the oar description does not tell you.Yet the oarlocks are advertised on the same page as the oars...."others bought...". When i submitted "shaft size" to the "what have we missed?" Amazon query i was thanked for my input but not redirected to the information i had missed in the description. Which says the info is not in the description. The solution: i went to my favorite DIY store Ace and bought 3" of poly tubing with an I.D. of 1.25 and an od of 1.75". Works fine.I also had to buy a longer lower bolt. The sleeve that seasense supplies is too short. The sleeve is intended to maintain some free play between the pin and the clamp....so that the oar can be lifted out of the water on the backstroke. As a result of the shortness if the lower bolt is tightened up to the sleeve there is NO free play. If you do not tighten up to the sleeve there is a chance the supplied nut could work loose.Solution: go to diy store. Buy a half inch longer lower bolt and another nut, or a locking nut. Leave some clearance between the inner nut and the sleeve.Better solution: go to walmart.com. they sell Shoreline oarlocks to match their oars. Same basic price, but only available online.I sure wish Amazon carried these.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to install
*by B***M on October 8, 2014*

Larger than i needed, but after searching for 1 3/8 oar lock with no luck, I built up the shaft with duct tape and the oar lock fit securly. I think the smallest shaft this model fits is 1 1/2".Easy to install
