It does elevate the pan and can slide if one is not careful and stirring vigorously, but I use it to make rice and most simmering recipes so this is not a problem. I have been very satisfied with the heat distribution. There is no handle sticking out to block other burners or get bumped. It is lightweight and moves easily from burner to burner. I have had no issues with it burning through over the past two years.
