Very tough and durable, and it should last the rest of my life. I could only use one of the fastening straps because I custom made my knife handle to fit my large hands, but one strap holds the knife secure. I'm sure both straps would fasten with a regular sized K-Bar knife handle. I've carried it on my belt quite a few times out in the field hunting, and it keeps me safe and my knife sharp. Review: Short Ka-Bar kydex sheath - This is a very good sheath for a short Ka-Bar. I bought this sheath to use with my Ka-Bar for times I did not want to use the leather sheath that came with mine. I bought it since I mainly use my knife in wet conditions and this sheath has holes at the bottom where the point of the knife rests. This allows water to drain out of the sheath as long as the point is pointed down. This sheath seems more noticeable than the leather sheath when the knife is not in it (like when it is being used). Depending on how/where you use your knife this may be a factor in buying it. Along the same lines, I found the kydex sheath stiffer than the leather sheath (not necessarily a bad thing) while using my knife. Depending on your use of your knife/sheath this may or may not bother you but should be a factor to consider when buying. All in all this is a great product of high quality and value. Since that's a 5.25" blade, and there IS a kydex sheath available (as replacement for the one that comes with the modernized rubber-handled Mark 1), the seller really ought to clarify. I ordered a KA2221S from Knife Center, which has a review clarifying that it will indeed work with Mark 1. So here's hoping that's right. **Q: would this fit a 5 1/2 blade?** A: No, it won't. I am using it with a short Ka-Bar . Blade is 5 1/4 inches long. I placed the blade against the outside of the sheath and I can't see you having another 1/4 inch to play with. It has a redundant strap with a snap over the guard that my sheath for the larger Kabar doesn't have. It is not necessary for retention in the sheath. It also has the strap around the handle which is useful to keep the knife more stable while walking. The sheath has many holes and slots for a variety of carry options.
