A: Not noisy on wood flooring. Not sure about noise level on tile.

**Q: How do I remove the gas riser cartridge from the base?**
A: A few sharp blows using a rubber mallet will be your best option.  I used this technique to disable many adjustable chairs.  It is the least likely to cause any marring of the surfaces.
