I couldn't locate it in my local stores so I purchased this as a larger group of items with free shipping. The spoon that comes with it is cheap wood; as for the price you would expect that. It takes on colors and stains. The bamboo mat is of good quality with no problems. I wrap mine in saran wrap when using to make life much easier. I used the rice paddle to turn and vinegar the rice, as recommended in "Sushi For Dummies." The mat made rolling the maki rolls a breeze - I was expecting it to be MUCH more difficult than it was. I would recommend that you purchase more than one mat if you are not making sushi alone. There were two of us and it would have been more fun (and productive) to each have a rolling mat.Word of caution though: If you are making sushi for the first time, consult a reference other than the pamphlet included with this set. The mat does what its supposed to do, I see no reason to spend more money on a "better" sushi mat.Interesting tip for those that like to make sushi with the rice on the outside: Most people wrap their mat in saran-wrap so the rice doesn't stick. The problem with this is that the saran-wrapping part is actually sort of a pain and often comes off in the rolling process. My solution: Get a big, ziploc freezer bag and put your mat in it. Not only does it do the same thing, its easier to deal with and never comes out of the bag.
