Will it block out the sound of a cat or dog licking itself?

Absolutely. They have been wonderful. I live with major sound sensitivities. I no longer deal with the sounds of the dog playing/licking or kids arguing. I can’t hear the dog, the kids I’m able to hear but at a much much lower volume. Not triggering at all anymore.

Do these block out the noise of coworkers clicking their pens?

They can block out the sound of my father watching the same episode of Blue Bloods for the ten millionth time at top volume. You're going to wonder if your coworkers stopped using pens altogether once you pop these in.

I am looking for the maximum amount of sound blocking - is this these? (not going for earbuds that play noise-cancelling sounds, yet).

These are 27dB (decibel) noise cancelling, that means it reduces the environmental sound by 27dB. So here are some dB comparisons Gunshot/firecracker 140dB, Jet Engine 130dB, Rock Concert 110dB, Lawnmower 90dB, Blender/Vacuum Cleaner 80 dB, Normal Conversation 60dB, Quiet Library 30 dB. In order to cancel out my hard of hearing father’s pandora, had to pair these with 37dB earmuffs and I still could hear it but at least it was very muffled. Is the loop a soft silicone or hard? I sleep on my side ans git something similar but the loop is hard and hurts whil sleeping

The Quiets are a soft silicone and flexible. The Engage and Experience models are hard and not for sleeping. I personally find the silicone tips painful as they feel like they trap an air bubble in my ears but the foam tips are fine. Make sure you're using the right size. Using the wrong size can cause pain or make the loops fall out. You may also need a different size for both ears.
