Typical Ontario quality, my third spec plus series, also have the sp-1 and sp-2. This is a light weight, short bladed spear point knife with ample handle length for even large hands. Coated 1095 steel takes a good edge and and seems to hold it well. I trimmed the thumb guard down a bit for better handling, only other mod plan is to remove coating, not a big fan of coated blades. Knife has no jumping but not a distraction to me, also don't expect to baton firewood, but again a great little day hiker.Sheath is a bit bulky in my opinion, makes knife appear larger than it is, but does what it needs to do. I would think this would be a more popular knife, but i guess everyone thinks they need a 1/4 inch sharpened prybar to have enough knife. I'm delighted with this purchase, a great value for about $40.00. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fills the Light Utility/Bushcraft Niche *by D***L on December 29, 2015* Ideal utility/bushcraft knife. Short, stout drop-point blade was delivered serviceably sharp. Great quality carbon steel, tough protective coating. Handle is long enough for big hands, krayton is grippy and nicely grooved, comes to hand perfectly and has a slim profile that improves carry options. Aluminum buttcap for light pounding/crushing. Full tang and decent blade thickness for light prying and dependability. Field dressing, food processing, tinder and kindling work, cutting cordage, notching, leather work, you name it... tough, versatile, easy to pack tool. Sheath is an afterthought... too wide, too long, too loose, lets knife rattle, seems made for some other product. Cost the total rating a star, but the knife itself completely fills the light utility/bushcraft niche. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Arrived Dull, Lots of Work to Sharpen *by K***R on April 27, 2015* After reading other reviews on Amazon about this knife, I bought this model and a Kabar Navy Mark 1 to replace the Moraknives in my search and rescue day pack. I've been a satisfied Ontario Knife customer through three decades of military and emergency response service.Until now.But that's not Amazon's fault, they delivered the right item on time to the right location, as usual.The knife I received was dull. I tried stropping it on leather, honing it on a steel hone; and sharpening it on ceramic sticks, a Lansky sharpening system, and an EZ Lap diamond plate. Nothing worked.Finally, I gently reground the edge angles with a couple of light passes on a one-inch belt sander running at low speed with a slack belt, followed by stropping on leather. That worked.Does this sound like the way you would like to spend a Sunday afternoon with a new knife you spent $60 on? No?Then buy the Kabar Navy Mark 1, which came sharp with a great handle and sheath, or buy 3 Moraknives for the same amount of money which come scary sharp and are easy to re- sharpen.
