I have a model one and a heavy period for the first two days, in which I empty this cup maybe four to five times that day, and regular for two to three times a day. During my lighter days, I only empty this cup once per day. The model two is not used as often by those who have a regular period, because it is kind of overkill. Also, if you are young, your body hasn't fully developed yet, so your uterus, vaginal canal, they are all smaller; thus the recommendation for model 1 for teenagers.
