It fits over the back cover but you cannot fold the Smart Cover over as a stand. You can fit the Smart Cover inside the clear back cover but this then stretches and leaves gaps either side of the magnetic strip if iPad. It is reasonably easy to hold and the plastic looks to be quite durable although not had long enough to determine if it will fade or not.
