I just steel wooled it off, I prefer a little patina on my brass. The blade is excellent, takes a very sharp edge and holds it rather well. Once I got it razor sharp I found that I only have to touch it up on a leather strop to restore the edge. It is a great low profile knife, sits in my front pocket without printing or getting in the way like many knives I have owned.
