The top of the rack is secured to the wall, and gravity expands the pockets downward, and the bottom pocket is then secured to the wall. Technically, the rack can be collapsed with cards still in it, but it will not sit on a tabletop. It ships collapsed to support convenient packaging. **Q: i'd like to know if this will fit 9 inch tall and 3.5 inch width time cards** A: Mine will not fit a card over 3.375" wide. Measured the slots with calipers at 3.390". Will not meet my needs. **Q: Will a 4-1/8" wide envelope fit into the slots?** A: No. It will fit items up to 4" wide only. **Q: This is expandable, can it also be reduced? I do not need 25 slots and have limited space.** A: The time card rack can, in fact, be reduced. I did not need 25 either and have it cut down to 12.
