This movie is SUPER entertaining, so good that I immediately watched it again. It's funny, light, romantic, sweet, has plenty of talented actors, (Anthony Quinn's last role)., held my interest to the end. I was drawn to it right away because I love Mafia movies, but this was wacky rather than serious. It proves that the multi talented Sylvester Stallone can do just about any role, --- from Rocky, to Rambo, to this (light romantic comedy. Btw, he can sing too. ( See the film "Paradise Alley," where he sings the title song for the picture in a sexy deep bluesy voice.) He writes screenplays, also, of course.... Ummm... I think he's at his most attractive here, looking very Italian (Hand gestures, Sly has big hands.) broad shouldered and manly and solidly muscular, like he REALLY could protect a woman. (Yes, yes, naturally, he was ALSO gorgeous in his youth, --- 30 or so.) Frankie Delano, his role in this movie, is so much a gentleman that he's instantly endearing, (Uh, especially when he's cooking and he does a few dance steps.) --- and even more when he's very, very polite, self controlled, shot and bleeding. Obviously. he really, really loves her. (He even tries to help her win another man. Sorry, Raoul Bova doesn't do it for me, --- much too smooth, and pretty.) Madeline Stowe is adorable. I laughed out loud at these lines, --- Her: "i feel like a whore in church." Him: "We all do." Her: What's he (the priest) saying? (in Italian) Him: "Wounds, blood, --- wounds, more blood, more wounds..." Oh, well... ;) Turns out this is my NEW favorite movie, --- I mean besides, "Rocky," and "Eve's Bayou, "Midnight In The Garden Of Good & Evil," and "Kingdom Of Heaven (Director's Cut)," --- of course. He is a legend and I wanted to see his last performance, which was spectacular. The movie itself is a romantic comedy in an Italian mafia setting. Some action and a few chuckles throughout the movie. I enjoyed it and think others will if they aren't expecting a heavy mafia drama or high octane action movie. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Surprisingly entertaining *by Z***2 on Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2010* "Avenging Angelo" is a multi-genre film. It could be listed as comedy, action or drama. In order to completely enjoy "Avenging Angelo", you need to be able to understand "Stallone humor.""Avenging Angelo" is about the daughter of ex Italian mobster Angelo Allieghieri. (Anthony Quinn) However, his daughter Jennifer Barrett does not even know he is her father, because Angelo does not want his enemies to get to her. Angelo has a bodyguard named Frankie Delano. (Stallone) As they are eating out, Frankie gets distracted by a police officer writing him a ticket. While Frankie is outside, one of Angelo's enemies kills him. Earlier in the film Angelo says "if anything happens to me, you've gotta keep doing what your doing for me" meaning when he is gone, Angelo wants Frankie to be Jennifer's bodyguard. After Angelo's death, Frankie tries to explain to Jennifer that Angelo Allieghieri is her real father.Throught the rest of the film there are some great scenes between Stallone and Stowe.Overall, Avenging Angelo is very enjoyable film if you like/understand Stallone's style of comedy. "Avenging Angelo" is that it is not purely a comedy film. There is some action and drama mixed into the comedy.Finally, Sylvester Stallone, Madeleine Stowe have good chemistry on screen which helps carry the film.
