## Description

“How does a mosquito find its host? And what can you do about it?”
Answering this was part of Dr. Martin Geier's research at the University of Regensburg in Germany. He spent years analyzing the composition of scents that are attractive to mosquitoes and finding the key factors that influence the behavior of these flying disease vectors. His research was the base for the patented trap systems.
Biogents’ scientists continue to develop and refine the expertise and the products the company offers.
Biogents’ mosquito trap “BG-Home” is a high-performance indoor trap that targets tiger mosquitoes and other flying pest insects in the house.
The trap is especially attractive to the Asian tiger mosquito and yellow fever (or dengue) mosquitoes. They are not only a nuisance, but can also carry diseases like dengue fever, chikungunya, or Zika.
The trap’s capture method is based on the patented technology of Biogents suction traps. Biogents suction traps were designed to simulate a human being: A combination of attractive visual signals and an air plume mimicking convection currents created by a human body.
Additionally, inside the BG-Home, a heated surface at body temperature provides an additional attractive stimulus for the mosquitoes. A UV light attracts additional pest insects.
Last but not least, to a mosquito, the black color of the trap is also visually attractive.
Approaching mosquitoes are lured closer by all these attractive cues and are then captured and deposited into the base of the trap where they dehydrate.
A transparent window allows you to monitor the catch and indicates when it is time to empty the trap.
It is recommended to place the trap indoors near mosquito hiding places, such as plants or nearby where mosquitoes enter the house. Do not hide the trap, nor place it too high (no more than 1 m above the ground). It is best to test different locations!
Enhance your mosquito control by eliminating breeding sites:
Empty or completely cover rain barrels; remove old tires; empty plant saucers, buckets, and other water holding containers; keep rain gutters clear.
The BG-Home trap:

Distribution of the Asian tiger mosquito:
The Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, has become one of the major mosquito pest species throughout most of the south-central and eastern United States. Over the past 30 years, this invasive and particularly aggressive daytime-biting mosquito has spread from its Asian origin to 5 continents. Over the last few years, the presence of Ae. albopictushas been reported from numerous new locations, reflecting an ongoing distribution in the USA. The tiger mosquito can be the vector of numerous diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.
Behavior:
Unlike other nuisance mosquitoes, the tiger mosquitoes are primarily active during the day, including dawn and dusk. In many communities, it has become the major pest mosquito and, due to its unusually aggressive biting, has taken the joy out of spending time in the yard and garden. Adult tiger mosquitoes tend to rest near the ground in vegetation and readily bite if disturbed. They tend to have a short flight range and remain within a few hundred meters of their larval habitats. Tiger mosquitoes developed a great adaptability in colonizing new habitats in urban and suburban areas. Females utilize flower pots, bird baths, soda cans, buckets, plant saucers, plastic drainpipe extensions and many other human-made water holding containers as sites to deposit eggs.
Identification (Asian tiger mosquito):
“Albopictus” means white-painted. The Asian tiger mosquito is a small mosquito, with sizes ranging between 1/10 and 1/3 inch. The animal is black with bright white marks. A single white line that begins on the head and continues down the back of the central part of the body (the thorax) is the most conspicuous characteristic, along with the white markings on the legs.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is the UV light replaceable?**
A: The UV light is not replaceable but it should last for a really long time. Until now we didn't had any case with a damaged UV light. If there will be a problem during the warranty period of course we would substitute the trap. While the trap is running you can switch the mode off the UV light between on and off. Your need to have it "on" to catch other insects like e.g. flys.

**Q: Does this also do the normal house flys as well?**
A: Yes - to catch also house flys and other flying insects indoor, you just have to switch the UV button to "on".

**Q: Will these kill Noseeums that are breeding on me? If I place it close to me**
A: This trap along with the attractant package are designed to fight predominantly mosquitoes, by sucking them in. However, it also sucks in other small flying home insects. The trap does not kill insects straight away, but it sucks them in where they eventually dry out. To get the best catch rate, place the trap at a place where insects naturally circle around, e.g a bowl of fruits, near a trash can, etc.

### ⭐ FAIL. Caught one mosquito in two weeks…
*by on Reviewed in the United States June 10, 2026*

Did absolutely NOTHING for my home. Randomly my home was infected with 50+ mosquitoes. About zappers, electric wands and all sorts of things, including this mosquito trap.I even purchased the carbon monoxide packet to attract the bugs to themAfter two weeks of being on, it had ONE mosquito. Meanwhile, the blue light with a sticky trap caught much more and I would kill 10+ mosquitoes a day with a wandThis product is absolutely not worth it, especially if you’re trying to get the mosquitoes here in Florida.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Caught 3 in first 24 hours indoors.
*by on Reviewed in the United States August 8, 2024*

At first I was worried, suction didn't seem strong. During the day a mosquito flying next to my desk ignoring it. But next day I checked had caught 3 overnight ! Didn't realize I was a home to so many. I thought I just had one viscous mosquito as I only ever noticed one flying around.P.S. Previously I tried a large UV zapper (that zapper works great for midges), but mosquitoes ignored it... I read some mosquitoes species DON'T like UV, they think it is daytime .. (time for them to sleep). This on the other hand works great.P.S. Don't be stupid like me... I was curious to see if it had worked... sooo... I opened it as I was counting my kills one mosquito flew off. Unlike a zapper or sticky board they are alive for a while in trap. Luckily at least I was on the lanai. Next time I get curious I will open outside far from home. Maybe inside a large plastic bag and squish anything that moves.P.P.S. I bought with the mosquito attractor scent packet. Packet says works for 8 weeks.
