It comes in well-packaged pieces with disposable gloves so you don’t smear the plexiglass during assembly, and a cloth to remove marks and smudges. The end result is quite beautiful. But you should not attempt assembly unless you have a good light source and have studied the pieces before trying to put them together. It really does work - you just carefully put the side pieces in a very narrow slot in the base, making sure to insert the side without notches, and push the piece as far over as it will go before trying to insert the adjacent piece. I managed this without trouble in spite of clumsy arthritic fingers and not the best eyesight.
