I have tried matte clays/creams/pastes that were twice the price and I will continue to purchase Layrite in the future. This is fantastic value for the money and I love how it styles. I simply apply a small amount to my slightly damp hair and I am able to style it with my hands. It does not provide a super strong hold and does not make my hair shiny (which is exactly what I want). I am still able to run my hands through my hair and the hold lasts all day. As it says on the container, the dryer your hair is when you apply it, the stronger the hold, so I like that you have some control over it. I also really like how it smells - a light cream soda scent.
