Question 1

Why doesn't the affresh tablet dissolve completely?  Each time I use it I have about one half of the tablet left.

I had a little tiny tiny of the tablet left over in my large front loader washer.  
That said, I had a problem after I had my washer for a few months. 
The repair man told me every time I was washing clothes to put in straight Vinegar in the Rinse Cycle cup. 
It works, and after every wash I leave the door open, and the drawer.

Is it scent free?  If not, is there a scent free he washer cleaner?

As someone who is scent sensitive I can say it has a VERY strong scent, so strong I would not use it in my washer. (Others have said the scent does not remain, I cannot speak to that as I did not trust the scent to dissipate and did not run it through a cycle. Too many washing machines have become "stained" with fragrance from laundry products - I can't even use public laundry mats because my clothes come out "stained" with scents :/ ). So if you are a scent sensitive person, I recommend using other brands that have fragrance free and work very well.

The main ingredients are sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate. Both ingredients are considered fairly eco friendly. Sodium percarbonate has the chemical formula Na2CO3·1.5H2O2 and contains sodium, carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. It is a source of highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide.  Sodium carbonate (also known as washing soda, soda ash and soda crystals), Na2CO3, is the water-soluble sodium salt of carbonic acid. Sodium carbonate is well known domestically for its everyday use as a water softener. It can be extracted from the ashes of many plants growing in sodium-rich soils, such as vegetation from the Middle East, kelp from Scotland and seaweed from Spain. It is synthetically produced in large quantities from salt (sodium chloride) and limestone by a method known as the Solvay process (read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_carbonate). According to Medline Plus, sodium carbonate it is toxic when ingested. Sodium percarbonate has a low acute toxicity via the oral and dermal route (LD50 > 1000 mg/kg bodyweight). Considering the ingredients, I'd say it is more eco friendly than most products.
