This book presents 60 songs and tunes from the American Civil War that were favorites with the soldiers and those at home, arranged especially for the 20-button C/G Anglo concertina.Inside are patriotic airs, marching songs, soldier songs, sentimental ballads and minstrel show songs adapted from the original sheet music, including popular works by Stephen C. Foster, George F. Root, Henry Clay Work and many others. All songs and tunes include the melody in standard musical notation along with complete lyrics and chords so you can play them on any musical instrument. For those who play the 20-button Anglo concertina, every selection includes an Anglo concertina tablature system that makes it easy to learn and play simple and complex arrangements. The music is arranged for concertina in a variety of styles – single note, simple harmony, octaves, and full accompaniment. All 60 tunes also have a QR code that links to a YouTube video so you can hear and see exactly how each printed arrangement is played.Although the 20-button Anglo only has one row of buttons in the key of C and another row in the key of G, it is far less limited than you might think, and you will be surprised just how much music you can make with it and how so many of these wartime melodies seem to fit perfectly. This book will take you back a hundred and fifty years so you can experience the songs and music of the rallies, the camps, the battlefields and the homes. SONGS: Amazing Grace, Angelina Baker, Annie Laurie, Aura Lea, Battle Cry of Freedom, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Beautiful Dreamer, Bonnie Blue Flag, Darling Nelly Gray, Dear Mother I’ve Come Home to Die, Dixie (I Wish I Was in Dixie’s Land), Do They Miss Me at Home, The Empty Sleeve, Faded Gray Jacket (Fold It Up Carefully), The First Gun is Fired (May God Protect the Right), Girls at Home, Glendy Burk, God Save the South, Goober Peas, Hard Times Come Again No More, Her Bright Smile Haunts Me Still, Home Sweet Home, The Homespun Dress (The Southern Girl), Just After the Battle, Just Before the Battle Mother, Kingdom Coming (Year of Jubilo), Lorena, Marching Through Georgia, Maryland, My Maryland, Minstrel Boy, My Old Kentucky Home Good Night, Oh Susanna, Old Folks at Home (Way Down Upon the Swanee River), Ring Ring de Banjo, Roll Alabama Roll, Star Spangled Banner, Stonewall Jackson’s Way, Sweet Evelina, Tell Mother I Die Happy, Tenting on the Old Camp Ground, There is a Fountain, They’ve Sold Me Down the River, Tramp! Tramp! Tramp! (The Prisoner’s Hope), The Vacant Chair (We Shall Meet But We Shall Miss Him), Weeping Sad and Lonely (When This Cruel War is Over), When Johnny Comes Marching Home, Who Will Care for Mother Now?, Yellow Rose of Texas. TUNES: Arkansas Traveller, Dodworth’s Original Lancers No. 1, Fayetteville Polka, Frog in the Well, Garry Owen, General Longstreet’s March, Girl I Left Behind Me, Hail to the Chief, Jenny Lind Polka, Seneca Square Dance, Soldiers Joy, Yankee Doodle. Review: Great book! - This is an amazing collection of songs, independent of the concertina content. Just the lyrics to the tunes make this worth buying! For the anglo concertina players, it's even better. The author's notation system is clear and concise, and his arrangements make savvy use of the available supporting harmonies. Anglo can be a real puzzle to play, since each button plays different notes for squeezing or drawing on the bellows. Gary has also posted videos on YouTube for each tune. Thanks again, Gary! Review: Good book - Great sounds great book. I’m trying to learn.

It is difficult to find music books for the 20 ...
It is difficult to find music books for the 20 button concertina. And they also show chords at the beginning of the book, which I've found hard to find. I am a beginner so it will take a while to figure out the fingering to any kind of musicality, but there is a numbering system which is much easier than reading notes.

A great book - with good tunes and songs.
I love this book and would recommend to anyone wanting to develop their repertoire and playing skills. The diagrams and the tablature used to explain chords are really useful and easy to understand.

Even 30 button anglo players will enjoy the tunes
Even though this book is written for the 20 button anglo, there's a wealth of information and enjoyment for 30 button players. Like all Gary's books, well written and fun!
