For the price (1/2 the price of a Camelbak) it really is a good buy for the money.First off, the back is a LOT lighter than a Camelbak brand hydration pack, probably 1/3 the weight. The tradeoff there is that it also doesn't have as much insulation to keep your drink cool all day, so your water will start getting warm within a couple of hours. But for the weight tradeoff, it may be worth it on longer more strenuous hikes.I was a little worried at first about the straw because when you fill the thing up and the straw hangs down it leaks like a sieve (so be careful when filling), but when you put it in its normal position (upright) it doesn't leak. Also when you suck the water out of the straw, it almost completely vaciates with the return airflow back into the tank (so no warm water sitting in your straw). The downside is that the straw isn't insulated, so it will get warm pretty quickly if the water stays in there. The bitevalve on the straw is a little strange, but it works fine. It doesn't have a "lock" on it like many other hydration packs and the lid is a little bulky.When I received the hyration pack, the screw on lid was not captive. It was very easy to put on the attached holder to make it captive, just make sure you put the ring in between the grooves on the lid or it won't turn very well.I was very pleased with the size of the pack. Normally these things are dinky when you get them. When I saw "good for kids", I expected it to be small and such promised it to my 6 year old. It pretty much drowns her, but she loves it anyway. When they say kids they really mean preteens :) It fits my wife and I perfectly though and the straps are quite comfortable.It is also nice to have the BPA free bag so that the water doesn't taste weird. My kids and I do a lot of outdoor activities and it gets extremely hot where we live so staying hydrated is always a challenge. Normally we take water bottles but that never lasts long enough, so I love that this hydration pack has a large capacity. It has a 70oz capacity replaceable bladder. The bladder is BPA free, leak proof, and another great feature is the wide screw cap that allows you to add ice. The pack part of the hydration pack is also really nice with several awesome features. The pack is made out of waterproof nylon and is super light. The shoulder straps, the back of the pack, and side straps are slightly padded making it more comfortable to carry. The straps are adjustable making for an easy fit. I like that for safety there are reflectors on the front of the two shoulder straps. The hydration pack is not lacking for storage, with several extra compartments and pockets, and I don't have to worry about my belongings getting wet because the interior material is a sweat proof foam padding. My only complaint is that its not very well insulated so the water doesn't stay cold. I’ve always thought hydration backpacks were more trouble than they were worth- this product changed my feeling completely. It is easy to assemble and use, and carries more than enough water to get me up and about on my walks and hikes. The pack is lightly yet sufficiently padded. There is a waist buckle and a buckle that extends across the shoulder straps to clip in front of the body. The water containing portion is made well, and holds a nice amount of water. I also like the extra side zippered mesh pockets and front pocket- these nice additions allow this backpack to hold food, keys, and other items for the trip.
