I just finished reading The Prophet, and I’m genuinely moved by how beautifully it has withstood the test of time. Gibran’s words feel as relevant and soul-stirring today as they must have when they were first written. Every page is a quiet meditation on life, love, pain, and purpose, written with such simplicity yet carrying such much needed profound truth. There’s something timeless and universal in the way he captures the human condition. I found myself pausing often, rereading lines that spoke directly to my spirit. It’s the kind of book that doesn’t just ask to be read, but to be felt. The Prophet is more than poetry or philosophy, it’s wisdom distilled into art. It’s the kind of book you keep close, to revisit in different seasons of your life, always discovering new meaning. For me, it’s a masterpiece that continues to illuminate the path between humanity and divinity.

This book has sold millions of copies and has been translated into over a hundred languages—and rightfully so. First published in 1923, The Prophet still holds up today as a beautiful work of literary art. Told in 26 short prose-poem chapters, it follows the prophet Al Mustafa in the city of Orphalese. As he prepares to depart on the ship that will carry him home, the people of Orphalese gather to seek his wisdom on a variety of life’s deepest topics. The lyrical prose is elegant and evocative, painting vivid pictures with words. The edition I read also featured Kahlil Gibran’s artwork, which is fantastic—hauntingly beautiful and fluid. I listened to the audiobook version while reading along over several days as a way to slowly process and immerse myself in the text. Though short in page length, it is rich and weighty in message. A beautiful masterpiece and a must-read for any literary enthusiast. Favorite quotes: “The timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.” “Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.” “And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair” “In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things, does the heart find its morning and is refreshed.” My enjoyment 5+/5

I first read “The Prophet” when I was 15 years old. It was an epiphany. I kept reading it again, from cover to cover. It was a holy book, I thought, filled with a kind of spiritual viewpoint on life which I’d never imagined before. I showed a passage to my Father-and he was not impressed. It was the first time he and I did not understand each other at all. But I was on a journey at that point, seeking a way of life I would eventually find, very different from my upbringing.

This would be a 5 star review as it is a lovely edition beautifully designed, BUT for some reason the intro references a work by Gibran that doesn't exist. "The Death of the Prophet" is not a work by Kahlil Gibran. There is a fake book with that title listed on Amazon claiming to be written by someone "channeling" him but it was not written by Gibran.

A book of wisdom that’s poetic and reads like beautiful music. I love it for the vocabulary. I found myself reading it just to meditate on the sheer beauty of the words. A masterpiece.

Do not pass this up. Gibran had such a beautiful way to teach life's lessons in this book. This is NOT a religious tome. The Prophet does not refer to nor promote any real person or any theology.

The masterpiece line is my go to selection in this price point. I really enjoy the ribbon page marker and gilding on the page edges. Hard to find a better value currently.

I had never read this work before and was very impressed with the quality of Gibran’s thinking and writing. However, there were numerous mistakes in spelling, punctuation and lacked organization. It was copied as one paragraph for each of the sections. I found a transcript on-line from a creditable source just to double check and discovered that an entire sentence was omitted from the section “Farewell”. But for the price, I guess I shouldn’t complain. I know the editor wanted to publish this as cheaply as possible and I respect him for that. Gibran’s words still came shining through.

My favorite book. I have bought it repeatedly over the years then find myself giving it away to someone who has never read it. This particular book is beautifully bound. It’s my favourite out of all the ones I’ve purchased

A very short book, only 133 pages published in 1926. To be honest I have no idea why I downloaded this. I have a vague memory of listening to a radio programme on the author some time ago, which I found interesting, so it must have been that! Gibran is described in Wikipedia as, 'the third best selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Laozi.' The book is written in bible-esque so if you are not a fan of that or indeed of religion it may not be a book for you. On the other hand and bearing in mind this was published in 1926 almost every passage can be related to every single one of us and our lives today. There are no chapter numbers in this short volume but they are defined by the questions asked of 'The Prophet' by the assembled town folk as he prepares to leave them, returning to his 'home'. Marriage Children Giving Eating and Drinking Work Joy and Sorrow Crime and Punishment Freedom Reason and Passion Pain Teaching Friendship Good and Evil Prayer Pleasure Religion Death So many of the words written by Gibran over 80 years ago, must surely, if you are tempted to purchase this book, resonate with something in your life today and his simple but reasoning outlook will remind you to step back and reflect on how you look at life and maybe think that there is something that you can do to change, for the better, on how you interact with others and with yourself! I'm not saying that I have had a religious or moral epiphany while reading this book, I personally still have no idea whether I am an atheist, agnostic or just a plane old fence sitter waiting for something different or better to come along, if that is indeed possible. I did write somewhere in regard to the Bible, and I suppose in the same tone the Koran would be included, that I look upon the former as a good novel and if only more people would read it (them) without the religious zealotry and bigotry surrounding it (them), the world would probably be a far better place for all humankind, but that aint gonna happen. But that should not take away from the fact that there are important life lessons in these works that are as relevant today as they were when they were written, as Mr Gibran's words, I believe, fall firmly within that description. The pages quality is very thin and cheap, and they are stuck together. This is a great book, but a very bad deluxe print edition.
