High Sierra XBT - Business Rolling Backpack, Black, One Size

I bought this bag for law school and an expectation that I will need to carry a bunch of heavy books. I had tried other rolling backpacks but they were too small. This bag is large and fits my 17" laptop. The laptop sleeve is in the middle of the pack instead of the back, which is taking some getting used to, but works well. There is also a tablet sleeve. I was concerned about not having mesh pockets on the sides for water bottles but have since figured out that I can fit two 16.9oz water bottles in the mesh pocket on the front. Also, I can fit a 16.9 oz water bottle in the side pockets by the wheels if I angle the bottle properly. The backpack's compartments are large and the zippers seem sturdy. The backpack straps hide away in a pocket. The pocket that contains the straps folds down and velcros to the bottom of the bag, which not only provides you protection from the wheels while you are wearing it, but also provides a little cushion from the hard plastic going across the small of your back. Other bags don't provide that, so this won me over. Also, I had read a different review that someone had trouble putting the bag in the overhead bin on a plane. I had no issue fitting it on the overhead bin on a typical Boeing 737. I even experimented and was able to fit it under the seat on my flight....which is nice in case its full of heavy books and I can't lift it up into the overhead bin. I know all planes are different and it could be more of a challenge on smaller planes. So at first I wasn't sure that this bag would work, but it keeps proving itself. The only downsides I have found are that the handle seems a bit flimsy, but I guess that helps keep it lightweight. Also, the straps are rather thin, so I see myself only using them if I am in a situation where I can't roll the bag. I am glad I took a chance on this bag.

Love this backpack, it has so much room

After over two years of near-constant use, I’m buying this backpack again. I used it for a month long trip around Europe as my only luggage. And for my work I travel roughly a week of every month, and I use it, stuffed full of my laptop, books and other heavy things, as my carry-on for every trip. And in over two years it has stood up well. The wheels, handle, zippers, etc. are all still working well. I’m finally replacing it because a tear has developed in the top. But the use I’ve gotten out of it is more than worth what I spent.

After looking at a TON of rolling backpacks I settled on this one from High Sierra and it hits that sweet spot of features, durability, and price. I travel 2-4 times a month for work and HATE to check bags! My previous rolling carry-on was bought 15 years ago (North Face) and while it still looks and works just great, the airlines have changed carry-on dimensions since then and I didn't want to risk being forced to check it. Also, that bag doesn't have a padded laptop compartment like this High Sierra one does. I really like the red color--helps me find my bag in the vast sea of black carry-ons......The handle is sturdy, wheels are solid, it rolls very well and is stable, and there's just a TON of pockets/compartments to store stuff. A couple tweaks would make this bag PERFECT: 1. The main zipper compartment has built in compression straps that are nice, but, there's no way (that I can see) to undo them and so this means you can't open that flap all the way and flip it back to load/pack: it only opens about 2/3's of the way. It works, but this simple change would be nice. Also would be nice if it had mesh size pockets big enough to carry my Hydroflask, I wound up buying a "tactical sports bottle pouch bag" here on Amazon that will strap on the bag:$6. A Hydroflask will fit in the front pocket, but it gets in the way IMHO, off to the side is best. I'm 6'3 and find the retractable handle is solid and well-built, but, I certainly wouldn't mind if it was 2 inches longer. The backpack straps are well padded, comfortable, and easy to take out/put away. At 6'3", 280lbs I'm a big guy and very few rolling backpack straps actually fit me. The only other rolling backpacks that cam close in terms of build quality and features were the Osprey bags, and they were 2-3 times the cost. Hoping this bag lasts--I'v had good luck with High Sierra products in the past and they offer a 5 year warranty on these rolling backpacks.

You should think of this more as a wheeled bag than can also be used as a backpack than a backpack that has wheels. I say that because given its larger size and more rugged nature, it is heavy for a backpack (6.5lbs empty). And with a large laptop in it, wearing it as a backpack can make you feel like you are on a trek for the deep jungle never to return. But, it was one of the few wheeled backpack laptop bags I could find that can fit a larger 17" laptop. And if you have a 17" laptop, weight was likely not your first concern anyways. The wheels are rugged and nicely sized. I used it when attending a four day conference (on a college campus) in which I had to walk about a mile across (rough) paved and brick sidewalks from the parking lot to the venue. It never tipped, and I never felt like I was fighting it. It is large (2,350 cubic inches). As others have mentioned, its one minor shortcoming is the lack of hooks or inner pockets. Instead you have a couple of large carnivorous pockets. It's a double edge sword. Having few large pockets means you can put larger objects in the bag. But at a cost of organization. Personally, I prefer that compromise. I've used bags that have lots of small pockets. And that can make organization easier, but at a cost of being able to fit larger things in, as well as an inability to remember which of the gazillion pockets you put something in (and it always ends up being in that hard to find pocket within a pocket :)). With this bag, I just use a travel organizer to hold some of my smaller items and then toss that in this bag. I can even put tape labels on the travel organizer so I don't have to search pockets. It works really well for me. I've had the bag for close to a year now. And it is holding up very well. Overall, highly recommended.

I don't normally rant about how good something is, and I rarely post comments on amazon about the items I have purchased. However, in this case I'm going to break with tradition and say: I love it! Roomy. The handle is long enough for comfortable towing (I'm 5'11). It is just small enough to meet carry on requirements, barely. The construction seems to be good, everything works and it arrived on a Sunday. (still trying to figure out the Sunday delivery thing). I love that it was designed to stand upright without any assistance or support. No complaints on this one. However, if you are of smaller stature, this one is big, a may be a bit heavy, and it may not fit in the overhead or under seat storage on some airlines, even though it is within the minimum standards. I could bore you with details, bore you with the reasons I needed a rolling backpack, bore you with all sorts of trivial stuff, but the bottom line on this one ... for my needs it is perfect. I may even purchase a 2nd one so that when this one wears out, I will have a replacement for it. There are always going to be pieces in a production run that are bad, and pieces that get past the quality control checks. That is just part of life in an industrial society. I've never had any problems with amazon taking care of the problems. So, if you need a roomy rolling carry on backpack, and you are on the tall side, and want something that is multifunction and versatile, this one is definitely worthy of your consideration.

I bought these along with the warranty and they wouldn't do anything about the warranty until after a year has past. I bought two of these and the handles didn't last a whole year. The zippers and stuff are fine, but the handle part of the rolling backpack part (the part you hold while rolling it around) totally broke and came off, on not one but two backpacks after everyday use from two of my kids. UPDATE: I bought two more because my kids really liked the color and have to carry around a bunch of stuff because school doesn't have lockers. Two weeks into school the effing handles break again in the same spot... ON BOTH BACKPACKS!!! Don't waste your money, my kids did take care of them, you can see from the picture that the backpack itself looks great and is rugged, the handle that allows you to wheel it around is worthless. I went from 3 stars to 1. I've spent too much money on these, I hope you don't do the same.

WOW. What a great purchase!! I do a lot of review reading before deciding on purchases. This one was spot on. I have gone through probably 5 backpacks in the last 3-4 years. I need a roller bag because I haul a lot of stuff with me to work and carrying that on my back was weighing me down. The wheels are great. They make the roll very smooth. There is a separate compartment for the straps. With my last bag, there was just a flap that ran over the straps and the flap was closed with Velcro. That was bad because the Velcro always came undone and the flap would drag on the ground. Anyway, this bag is HUGE. I have room for everything. I was overstuffing previous bags, but have an abundance of room with this one. I LOVE it! Oddly enough, with the size of this bag, it weighs less than my last bag. It must be the material. The actual handle (not the pull handle) is very cushiony which I love. I think this bag would be a bit too big to fit under the seat of a plane. But I have no intention of traveling with it. My only complaint is that although it has pockets on the sides, they don't seem to be for water bottles. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with this guy.

Rucksack zu klein für 17 Zoll notebok

Compré este en Junio, y lo usé viajando a Europa. Usandolo con las ruedas (jalandolo) en los aeropuertos, y cargandolo (como mochila) caminando por las ciudades. Ha funcionado muy bien, y hasta ahora sin ningun problema. Me hace muy bien la distribuicion de los espacios, y el diseño, pero mas que nada la combinacion (poder jalar con ruedas y colgar como mochila). Es muy practico cuando uno viaja. Solamente no doy 5 estrellas porque solamento lo he usado 2 vezes todavia, en total unos 20 dias de uso "activo". Ojala que sigue igual de bueno.

very nice and sturdy bag. It is a bit heavy as compared to some other backpacks on wheels, however the weight is justified by a better quality. I am a fan of wheeled backpacks for traveling and my son is using them at school. But check with your air carrier company to see size restrictions. This one will be fine on transatlantic flights, but we used a smaller one on Sunwing and they commented although let us through since we were 3 people with 2 bags and I told them I would unload to a separate tote if necessary. Charter flights like ours were only allowing 5kg in the cabin.
