Review: Perfect thank you Review: I have old Rain Bird valves on my irrigation system which has a different solenoid than the new versions and I couldn't find any old style anywhere. Thanks to a comment in another review, I was able to utilize this solenoid on my valves. As the other review stated, you have to use a knife to cut off the white plastic at the end which retains the solenoid core then it works fine for the Rain Bird. Worked so good, I bought two more to replace all the solenoids while I could get them. The broken one (prob 20 years old) was made in the usa, but the replacement that I bought from ACE was made in mexico. I'd imagine this one was also made in mexico. **Q: How do I tell if it is bad?** A: if you have 24v at the solenoid, and it does not open the valve the solenoid is bad **Q: how wide are the threads? I need a 3/4 inch diameter** A: Rain Bird makes a replacement solenoid that is a 3/4" male thread. **Q: Are these waterproof or do they need a cover?
