The base plugs into a USB cable, and the base charges, and it holds that charge, which is why I bought the extra base, b/c I wanted to bring it in the car w/ me. The problem started w/ Jabra taking their sweet time shipping this item to me. They estimated a two week shipment, and it took them even longer. Second, they shipped the based w/out the USB cable necessary to charge. Am I supposed to use it as a paper weight? Not likely, since it weighs about three ounces. Finally, when I did plug it in, it was DOA. I tried sending it back, but b/c it was purchased through Jabra, they had to approve the return, which was a first for me in all my years of dealing w/ Amazon. Jabra approved it, but they wanted me to pay the shipping cost back to them, so I contacted Amazon, and they had to get involved. Eventually, Jabra relented, and I was able to send it back w/out paying for return postage, and I was refunded all my money. I was so disgusted w/ Jabra.
