Martin Lawrence starts out this CD by saying that his boxing trainer used to tell people, "One thing about Martin--he won't get hit...and he won't hit anybody either." The same goes for his comedy. Lawrence opts to bob and weave, never really clobbering anything. This makes for a pleasant but hardly sidesplitting first effort. Still, Talkin' Shit has its moments, as when Lawrence mimics an outraged Joe Jackson: "That's bullshit.... I never hit those kids. I hit Michael maybe once, when he didn't give Tito the syrup." The only downside to the CD--besides Lawrence's reflexive profanity, which gets as grating as a stutter by the end--is that you might know a little more about the comic's weenie than you would like.
