With a really small flathead screwdriver, I opened up the jaws of the mounting hook and slid the wooden shaft upwards and then re-clamped the hook piece. It also did not match the finish which is a dark walnut. The size of the box of my clock is 4"x4.5" without including the roof and leaf cornice on top.
