Glass that has been heated to around 700˚C is suddenly cooled by cold air ventilation. This treatment creates controlled stress in the glass which improves most of its physical qualities: resistance to mechanical stress (bending, impacts) and thermal shock. Duralex glass is 2.5 times more resistant than an annealed glass product and resists to a thermal shock of 130˚C. Unfortunately you only get about 6" of flat usable surface. I wish I would have thought to ask your question before purchasing. About 3" of the plate is take sloping up in unusable space. **Q: Are the plates hot to the touch when you cook in the microwave?** A: Yes they are hot to the touch. We put a hotpad under it so we can remove the plate from the microwave without burning fingers. **Q: We need to know if oven safe, you need to find out please, and answer the question** A: Lys dinnerware is not meant to be put in the oven. On the web site, it states they can withstand a thermal shock of up to 265*F. So you probably could warm food on them in a 200* oven. Duralex sells baking dishes for the oven.... similar to Pyrex. I have only placed by Lys dishes and bowls in the microwave and suggest you only do that too. **Q: Are your small square bowls oven safe? Baking custard or individual tart?** A: No, they are not oven safe.
