When I ordered it, I figured I might be sending it back based on other reviews, but all my experiences with it have been great. I haven't had the need to heat it yet, but it works terrific as an ice pack. I needed one for my knee after running (per my physical therapist working with my biomechanic issues), and this one wraps nearly all the way around it. Because I'm smaller in size, the strap can be wrapped twice so that it goes around the top half and then the bottom half of the pack, keeping it snug to my knee. I've walked with it some and it stays put well enough to grab something until I sit back down.I like that the pack is flexible when frozen to form to my leg. It also has stayed cold longer than I expected or had read about on other reviews. I've had the pack on for 30-45 minutes and it remained cold enough. By then, my entire knee was cold enough, too, even if the pack had warmed up some (thermodynamics say it did), but I couldn't tell the difference. I even took it with me to the track (cold outside) and put it on after my workout as I drove home. Because of the good flexibility, it did not impinge my driving but obviously the manufacturer would not endorse this. When warmer outside, I'll just put it in a little cooler when my workout requires driving elsewhere. Frankly, it is comfortable enough to nap in it.I also like that this is a bigger pack with some coverage above and below my knee. It will definitely work well in larger body regions. The strap is quite long so it should be comfortable for many applications. The pack slips easily into the cover after I remove it from the freezer. These have been so helpful that I have ordered them for family members -- such as when my Mom badly sprained her ankle, and she also found them helpful. I have many Smart Temp cold packs, ~5 now, and I often alternate between painful areas. After thoroughly frozen, the cold lasts for at least 1-2 hours. The size is excellent for applying cold to many places -- the cold pack can be placed over shoulders (I have dislocated & had surgeries on both), wrapped around knees (the Velcro is useful for keeping it in place, although it's quite difficult to walk with a cold pack on; it tends to fall down from the knee), wrapped around the hip, the lower back, the ankle, etc. The Smart Temp cold packs have lasted for >4 years, and maintain cold now just as well as when initially purchased. At home, they have been quite durable; they are stored in their own little drawer in the freezer. When stored at work in the freezer, the Smart Temp packs were occasionally damaged, so that one would leak gel, but this is probably because others carelessly threw items atop the cold pack and punctured it. The blue cloth covers can be washed in the washing machine; an occasional wash removes the stale freezer smell. Every household should have one of these in the freezer, just in case!! They used to leak, they were cumbersome to tie them around leg or arm, and they wont stay put. Finally I decided to order this and I am so delighted that I ordered this as it WORKS GREAT. Its pliable so it fits around the body area like a glove ..The soft gel provides the comfort without any gaps. The gel is sealed well so it does not leak and can be reapplied withing few hours. The elastic band secures the pad in place with no worry about constant slipping. I strongly recommend this for anyone recovering from knee or shoulder surgery.
