## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have a subzero 550 and ice forms in the freezer. how do i tell whether it is the defrost timer or the defrost heater?**
A: I had the same problem, and I finally fixed it. I replaced the original timer with the one you have identified, and it occurred to me at the same time that the Defrost Terminator thermostat might also be at fault. That part is #20 on the diagram in the Sub-zero manual* ( P/N 3082060, now superseded by P/N 7006594). My efforts at Googling either number just now indicates that Amazon's suppliers have none in stock, but that "Certified Appliance Parts" has it available for ~$30 plus whatever shipping they charge. Looks like they are authorized by Sub-Zero/Wolf, which is why they may actually have it. I imagine a generic item with the right specs (35/55 degrees) would work, but you would have to transfer the connector from the old item to the new--and also make sure that the new item would clip properly to the refrigerant line in the freezer, so it could sense its temperature. Finally, the heater could be at fault, of course, but that looks like a more expensive and complex repair, assuming the part can be found. As mentioned, You Tube videos can provide good background. Good luck * If you do not have the service manual, you can download it for free at http://appliance911seabreeze.com/Sub-Zero_Built-in_500_Series_Refrigerator_Service_Manual.pdf.

**Q: Does this work on subzero 601F?**
A: We did not find this to be a valid cross reference to the model listed.

**Q: Are there instructions on how to replace this part on my Subzero 550? Where is it located?**
A: I replaced the one on our 590. The 550 looks similar. It is located on the top section of the unit (remove the grille). There is a wiring cover (easily removed) and the timer is held onto this panel with a couple of screws. Look for a circular dial, which is slotted and can be turned with a screwdriver. I am assuming that the 550 and my 590 are pretty similar and the part is very easy to replace. Just be sure to cut the power to the unit before pulling the power panel cover. Replacing mine did not fix the problem as it turns out that a thermostat located behind the evaporator coil was bad. Good luck and I hope the timer fixes your problem.

**Q: Will this work for a Subzero 532?**
A: I have the SubZero 550, manufactured in 1994, and it works on mine. The 550 is 36 inches wide and has the lower freezer drawer.
