You can use it to screw clockwise or counterclockwise. You can arrest it and use it as a "normal", manual screwdriver. Even works as a drilling machine in softer materials! Lithium battery is powerful and holds the charge for like forever! This is one of my favorite tools and I use it all the time. One phillips and one straight slot bit. **Q: How does one know when charging of this screwdriver is completed?** A: Today Nov 18, 2018. I got the new screwdriver. The charge unit had a red led light came on when charging / no light is complete. **Q: Can I use this to drill holes ?** A: Yes, you could drill holes but you need drill bits with special ends to fit the screwdriver. The new one is as good as the old with advantage of the 3 selectable positions. There are possibly better versions of these drivers on the market ( at a much higher price) but this model is perfectly adequate for everyday home use. The only problem with the item is that it is now a US import and the battery charger is fitted with a composite US charger / electricity plug.
