I don't get that impression but some of the reviews make me think otherwise...** A: I do not believe that this particular version of the kit includes the soldering iron. This appears to be the 'refil' kit. Is the 11 year old responsible with a soldering iron? Will he/she turn it off and unplug it when getting a drink or going to the bathroom. House's catch fire from soldering irons left unwatched. Other than that it's a good learning kit, I haven't soldered in 40 years and I'm just getting back up to speed. Only YOU can judge if your child is ready and responsible.
