Steels are labeled as numbers, yes, but the numbers given on these is far different than what we normally use. You MUST use the mm sizes to choose a hook if you are working lace with these. The largest hook in this set is NOT a '0' as it is labeled, but rather just smaller than a US 6, while the smallest hook that they label as a 12 is finer than a US 14. **Q: Ok, is the no.2/1.50mm the same size or similar in size to no.7/1.65mm steel boyd hook? i have a pattern that calls for 7/1.65mm.** A: 1.50mm is similar to 1.65mm. I didn't even realize by how much until I misplaced one and tried to use a similar one from another set before giving up in disgust. I am multiply disabled, including having several things wrong with my hands. When I use these, the lightweight metal, combined with the ergonomic handles and correct angling of the hooks and grips, combined with the smoothness that just lets yarn glide like no other hooks I've ever seen - for context, I can crochet for hours before experiencing any exrea hand pain, while other hooks give me hand cramps in under 30min. The convenient color coding and easily legible size labels are practically icing on the cake at that point. I've been recommending these to every crocheter I know. The sole reason I don't recommend any of the sets for beginners is the price tag - better in my opinion for a beginner to buy one or two of the single hooks by the same brand, and see if you decide you're really going to get into this craft, before springing for this and the other two available sets from the same brand (just as highly recommended as this one).
