Their characterisation is spot on. They're amusing without it being overdone which I think is a easy trap to fall into with the greenskins. Their goofiness is contrasted nicely by how clearly threatening they are when viewed from the POV of the Adeptus Mechanicus. I must admit, when I saw that the Adeptus Mechanicus were the 'bad guys' of the piece I groaned, yet Mike Brooks made them interesting and engaging. I actually warmed to a couple of the Mechanicus characters which kind of says it all. Die Story ist den Protagonisten geschuldet natürlich nicht sonderlich tiefgängig - aber das wäre auch unglaubwürdig. Allerdings muss man Zugeben, dass die einfache Herangehensweise an praktisch jede Aufgabe/jedes Problem schlüssig rüber kommt. Ich hatte mich immer wieder bei dem Gedanken erwischt: "Ja, der Ork hat verdammt noch mal recht. Warum sind da humies so humie? Warum nicht Probleme direkt lösen, sondern alles so umständlich machen?" Ich hatte schon lange nicht mehr so gelacht beim Lesen eines Buches. Der Slang für sich ist es schon wert. Leider gibt es viel zu wenige Ork-Romane.
