Review: Burned out, use syphon instead - This pump worked well, but you have to turn it off before the water empties. It says it has protection if the water is gone, but that is not true. I missed babysitting this thing one time and it burned out when the water emptied, and stopped working. After trying another kind of pump that would clog easily, I went back to using the syphon style drain to empty water off of the pool cover. It works great and requires no power. The key is to use a pitcher of water to fill the tube then flop it over the side of the pool and off it goes! Perfect!

This pump worked well, but you have to turn it off before the water empties. It says it has protection if the water is gone, but that is not true. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect!

Stuck it on the winter cover, connected it to power, left the hose hang over the edge of the pool and simply used the remote to switch on when the water was too deep. Note that a layer of water protects the pool cover against strong winds in the thick of the winter. But when there are leaves rotting, or the temperature rises, you want that water removed. This little pump was able to manage the job in 6"+ water depth, in freezing water, through leaves and their sludge. UPDATE: the little pump has managed two winters, with deep freezing and melting snow. It was left on overnight on accident and while it did pull in the cover, it did not put a hole in it and did not break from running dry. This spring, we had to drain the pool when we opened (longer story). We used this pump to do so and it worked like a champ, making a short work of the 4000 gallons it had to evacuate. The switch allowed us to get the last drop (automatic ones leave 2" of water.) The blue shield has fadedafter sitting in leaf tea for months, but it still runs like a champ and the shield has remained solid. If it ever becomes available again, get it!
