Review: Great little slate board - This is another gift I bought for my Mother for Mother's day. She is a crafter and brings her wares to shows so I thought this would be a nice little table top easel to write and sales or specials or little notes on it for her craft tables. It's the perfect size for that sort of thing. The day after Mother's Day I received an email with a picture of a a note she drew on it that said "Love it. Love you". I looked like the chalk moved well across the board and had a nice color and line to it. This is a slate board and not the fake boards that wear off over time. It's a great little piece and the price wasn't too bad.

**Q: Has anyone had an issue with the wood smell?  Just received my chalkboard and there is a horrible smell (fishlike) coming from the wood.**
A: we did not have a smell

**Q: how large is the writing area?**
A: It's exactly as pictured, the frame is about 1 inch wide.  I've got in the box to take to a wedding so I can't measure it.  The whole frame is not large (see description for size) but it is mostly writing area.

I really want to give this a higher rating because it looks amazing but I received my chalkboard with parts of the wood broken. The wood also seems to be of a very low quality. I had to repair the broken parts with glue and it looks a bit better now but having to repair a brand new product is disappointing. EDIT: The folks at South Street Designs were kind enough to replace my slightly damaged chalkboard without any prompt from me at all. It arrived rather quickly as well. The chalkboard really is wonderful and given the great customer service, if you're on the fence, just give it a try.
