There is a waterproof, terry cloth top and the rest is a durable material. It is very quiet when moving when trying to sleep. Some reviews state there was an odor upon opening the package. Neither of the covers we have purchased had any odor. However, if you do have an odor the cover is washable and dryable (low heat). It takes a while to dry though, but be patient. The zipper is tucked and hidden so it won't snag on anything. I definitely recommend this mattress protector

I bought a new full size mattress and wanted to protect it from dust mites and possible spills. I have bought this protector before, and loved it! It is easier to install if you have two people doing it, but can be done by just one person. I find it's easier to lay it on the mattress zipped up then unzip it and slide to the top of the mattress sliding half under the mattress while sliding the other half over the top of the mattress pull the lower half, under the mattress gently, while simultaneously gently pulling the top half then zip up and adjust as needed. There is a waterproof, terry cloth top and the rest is a durable material. It is very quiet when moving when trying to sleep. Some reviews state there was an odor upon opening the package. Neither of the covers we have purchased had any odor. However, if you do have an odor the cover is washable and dryable (low heat). It takes a while to dry though, but be patient.
