Is the stick rubberized like the 3DSXL stick? Or is it the crappy, slick hard plastic (like on the original 3DS) that your thumb constantly slides on

its built better than the original 3DS one, my thumb does slide off, but that was because my thumb was sweaty, but its better than the other one, at least to me it is

is it easy to put on like without a screwdriver or anything

All you need the screwdriver for is puting the battery in. It clicks when you put the ds in circle pad pro. You will have to push one side out to unattach it, and to attatch it. You always start with the closer end that faces you, as in to attach it you put the front end down. Then push the back end down where it will click. Then to unattach it you push the front end up. ALSO to be sure about this product, to buy some games from Nintendo eShop it won't work with the attachment it will want the New Nintendo 3DS model where it already has the new buttons.

How does the ds recognize that its attached?

It just knows it is there every time u hook it up and if it is for a game that uses it. It say circle pad recognized and then u do what the screen says and it work

Why are you selling this for almost 40 bucks when you can buy it straight from Nintendo's website for 20?
