Math, Crime, and FBI all make for AN EPIC BOOK!!!

*by K***R on Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2013*

So this book has been on my TBR list for a while, but I'd never gotten to buying it. So with all of my amazon gift cards i'd gotten for Christmas I thought why not, this book sounds pretty awesome. So I bought it and OMG, this book was good. No, I'm lying. This book was so fanfreakingtastic that I wanted to jump up and down and scream. So now that my total and complete love for this book has been established, let me break it down for you.THE PREMISEFarrah is a math genius, but because of the cruel ways of her middle school peers she hides her true self and mirrors her friends. Then when she is watching a show with her friends she sees these numbers across the bottom of the screen. She tries to disregard it, but she can't forever. The only link she can find is that the numbers might have something to do with John F Kennedy. After that when she learns that JFK airport suffered a terrorist bombing she talks to her dad who then takes her to the FBI. These events lead to her meeting John Bennet, who's job is now to protect Digit(Farrah)THE PROS1. Awesome characters. I loved Digit and John and also Digits friends, even though you didn't hear much about them.2. Digit's evolution. Since I don't want to give to much away, I think that a lot of times in a book you don't see the evolution of a character until it's over. In this book you see Digit gradually changing and becomeing her own person instead of a mirror to others.3. Digit's parents. Gotta love those supportive parents!!4. The bad guys. So yeah I kinda did see that one coming, but still he had a good reason.5. The danger. I love the whole pressure thing. Like everyones gonna die if you can't do this. I thought it was unrealistic they would put it on Digit's shoulders to crack all those codes, I mean the FBI and CIA do have code breakers, but I totally get why the author would have Digit do the heavey lifting.6. The Math. Who doesn't love math, Seriously!!7. The ending. Who doesn't love the sweet ending!!So yeah I do have more pros, but since listing them all would take forever I won't.THE CONS1. I normally feel like I have to list at least one con, but I am making an exception for this book.I guess the biggest thing would be is how they were always talking about how she wasn't 18 yet. That didn't really detract from how much I love the book, but it kinda... I don't know threw me off in some of the situations.2. Just thought of another con- This book was unrealistic. Like REALLY unrealistic. I actually just read someone else's review and they mentioned it and I was like oh yeah, that oart was really weird. I still like the book, but if you are looking for a book that is totally spot on in all of the possible technologies we have as of this moment in time, then this book is probably not for you.THE OVERALLThis book was epic! I loved it, as you can see above. This book was full of so much epicness I was shocked. It definetly made my list of top 2012 reads and thats saying a lot because it's December 30. So in all I loved the character interactions, the action, and the epic awesomeness!Thank You Annabel Monaghan and please keep writing!!WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE IT IS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!WOULD I BUY THIS BOOK: ALREADY DID AND I SURE WON'T BE RETURNING IT!!AM I TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK: DUHWOULD I READ THE NEXT BOOK: YESWOULD I READ MORE BY THIS AUTHOR: EVEN IF IT WASN'T MY THING I WOULD STILL GIVE IT A GO!!Fav quote: "For years I've gone to bed gazing up at the eternal question: WHAT IF THE HOCKEY POKEY IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT?"Okay that is the end of my gushing, and I think YOU should read this book

    Digit is delightful!

*by F***S on Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2013*

Since other reviewers have covered the plot fairly well, I'll skip doing the same.As the 40-something mom of a 13-year old daughter who loves math, this book caught my eye as I was reviewing titles for her for quick summer reads. Since I ordered many books at once and she chose to dive into a different title first (one her friend had read and recommended earlier in the year), I decided to read this one myself before her, and found it utterly captivating, enthralling, and delightful. The pace reminds me of a Stephanie Plum novel, which is a good thing.Whereas other reviewers have expressed having issues with the romance between a 17-almost-18-year-old girl and a 21-year-old young man, I don't. Nor do I have issues with the reactions of the parents of these two exceptional young people. They're living through extreme circumstances, they're well-grounded kids with similar though not identical experiences and backgrounds, and the parents are smart enough to recognize a good thing when they see it. Besides, this is fiction; it's not supposed to be 100% true to life, right? That would be boring. The things I really love about this story are:1) the message about being true to yourself and not trying to fit in and be someone else's (everyone else's) idea of who you should be.2) the theme that math can be really cool, and having a talent can too.3) the way the main character comes to understand that as she's hidden her true self from others and worked so hard to fit in, she's denied herself the ability to really get to know what amazing people her friends really are...before it's too late to have a chance to enjoy them. All three of these are great messages for teens, both boys and girls, who are struggling to figure out who they are, who they're becoming, and what the world around them is all about.I'm chomping at the bit to buy the sequel when it comes out - I can't wait - and if my daughter's lucky, I may let her read it too! Pease keep 'em coming, Ms. Monaghan!

    ok - but nothing special

*by G***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 24, 2015*

This is really expensive at almost £5. I don't think it's worth that for an eBook. This would be suited for a much younger audience as it was hardly plausible. The whole running from terrorists and hiding in "safe" houses had me rolling my eyes. Even the clues were blatantly obvious and silly. The author also made a play out of the names, like Henry Bennett and Ben HigginsIt's not a sophisticated suspense, the mystery and action was sadly lacking. The clues were ridiculous. The fact that the FBI and CIA were depending on Digit to crack codes (you'd think they'd have a team of Code-Cracking Prodigies somewhere) was another meh.The characters followed a cliché - too many blonde plastic Barbie Popular friends, Typical Dumb Jock, Nerdy Tall, Dark, Handsome hero, Weird Space-Out Hippie Bro, Melodramatic Actress mum and Nerdy dad.But for a younger audience around 13/14 it would be ok.The ending romantic bit was a bit too pat
