Can I use this on doorknobs or will it rub off?

Eventually it rubs off. Then just touch up.

Do you put something on top of it to ensure it doesn't rub off? Want to use it for gilding on nightstand. TY

I did an old book case of my grandmother's four or five years ago. I totally covered it in a pewter/silver color. A year or so later I rubbed a Grecian gold over it, just to mute and soften it. When it is fresh and if you rubbed it firmly, a film of it would come off visible on white cloth. I used it immediately with books and objects on top of the case. It was never a problem. I just tested it by rubbing firmly with a paper napkin and nothing rubs off. I believe it will continue to cure over the years. I would not worry about having a problem.

Can you use this on pewter jewelry?

i believe so...i used this wonderful product on a brass table i purchased on a close-out sale...the only trouble ?....it was brass !!....so Rub 'N Buff to the rescue...now beside my pewter metal bed; it's aged/beautiful !!...everyone wants to know where i found this interesting table but my secrets are best kept private !!!.....enjoy this product....it has many uses...love it....
