Garage Door Opener Surge Protector

This is a tremendous surge protector. Absolutely tremendous. I have a garage door opener—a beautiful garage door opener, very expensive electronics—and I said, we’re not letting a power surge destroy this thing. Not happening. You plug this into the outlet, then you plug the garage door opener into it. Very simple. Even Congress could probably do it. Power surges are nasty. They come into your house completely uninvited. Nobody knows where they’re coming from. Lightning, the power company, maybe China. Who knows? But this little device stands there and says, NO. YOU’RE NOT GETTING TO THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER. And that’s important because garage door openers today have circuit boards. Very sophisticated. Very delicate. One big surge and suddenly you’re standing in the garage pressing the button like an idiot and nothing happens. Then somebody comes out and tells you it’s $400. A disaster. For a few dollars, this gives me some protection and peace of mind. Maybe I’ll never need it. Hopefully I won’t. But if a surge comes, we’re ready.

Originally, my LiftMaster 120V garage door opener did not have a surge protector installed. One night, a severe thunderstorm rolled through the area, and many of my neighbors had to reset their refrigerators, stoves, circuit breakers, and other appliances. It was clear that a power surge had affected our neighborhood, so—as a preventive measure—I decided to install this surge protector. After installation, I meticulously inspected every component of my garage door system: the wiring, RF receiver, remote controls, logic board, and sensors. While the mobile app and the wall-mounted push button inside the garage worked perfectly, the handheld remotes and wireless keypad remained unresponsive, even after I reprogrammed them exactly as described in the LiftMaster manual. As a former technician, I chose not to replace any parts until I could identify the true cause of the issue. In the end, nothing was wrong with the surge protector. The logic board’s RF system simply needed time to reset and stabilize. Nearly two weeks later, I attempted to pair the remotes again. This time, using the opener’s “Learn” button, everything connected immediately. All functions—including the handheld remotes, keypad, HomeLink system, and Wi‑Fi connectivity—sprang back to life and began working normally again, as if nothing had ever gone wrong. The most satisfying realization was that I didn’t need to replace a single part. The surge protector is performing its duty admirably, and I now have peace of mind knowing that my opener is protected from future power surges. Sometimes, patience and careful troubleshooting are all that’s required. The opener is now functioning perfectly—the red LED indicator confirms that everything is operating normally. I highly recommend this surge protector.
