White light blinds you to anything outside the illuminated area. Red just enhances what you're illuminating but allows you to still see what's outside the illumination. **Q: What wavelength is the red light?** A: Haven’t measured it but imagine it would be 680 nanometers. **Q: Is there a way to shut off the strobe permanently? It is annoying to cycle back to high and have the strobe.** A: Unfortunately, no. Plugged in directly can power weak red beam but not high beam or flutter beam. Pressure included batteries are thus rechargeable after 5 hours of use that other buyers reported. Headlamp tilts out by finger toggle to 3 click stops. By rotating/ pulling lamp outwards to β€œ zoom in β€œ (focus beam) to smaller 1 foot square beam at 5 meters. Seems very well built.
