Assembly is required, but unlike some of the other reviewers, I had no problems. I like the look and the airflow this provides. If you are someone who crams your hamper full of laundry, I wouldn't recommend this hamper to you. The woven strips don't seem like they could take a lot of "cramming." However, it works perfectly as a hamper for my husband and me and my once a week laundry schedule.The natural finish has a bit of an orange to it. If you are looking for a perfect match to an existing wood finish, I recommend buying this somewhere where you can compare woods OR being happy with something slightly off.UPDATE 12/19/12: I am still happy with this purchase, but wanted to add that after a few months I noticed some of the woven strips were pulling out of the side. I'm guessing our 2-year-old tried climbing on it or something. Even under direct and bright lighting mine is Near black. You can’t see the red undertones at all.The only other hampers that looked nice like this were much more expensive, so it’s not worth returning, but If you’re looking for something that’s a dark brown with reddish under tones, this isn’t it. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Some Assembly And an hour plus $16 of new tools *by J***L on Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2010* When assembled it looks nice except the colour is more purpled than mahogeny. I remember my father having shoes this colour called Oxblood by the polish makers can. there are some small rubs where this knowledge helped me get shoe polish that made perfect covering.I really do like the style and look of the hamper but the colour keeps it in the closet. If I had gone with the lighter color I would give this a five star review, so I need to just say have two people there when you go to attach the lid. Really, or a set of clamps to keep it in place and predrill the screw holes because the marking spots are not deep enough to get the screws to seat. Assembled and touched up it is a VERY good looking piece. Honestly it shouild never have been called Mahogany and, the purple tint maks it NOT Dark Oak. The Hamper can work in my room as long as it has its own place away from another contrasting piece of furniture.
