As a filmmaker who regularly works in unpredictable lighting conditions and tight spaces, I’ve come to rely on this kit as my go-to solution for both professional and creative shoots. The build quality is solid, with an aluminum alloy shell that’s surprisingly lightweight yet durable enough to withstand transport and on-set wear. The included stands and barn doors feel sturdy and well-made, and everything fits (snugly) into the provided carrying case for easy travel. What truly makes this kit exceptional is the lighting performance. Each panel outputs a generous amount of light with a CRI of 97+, so colors look natural and consistent across scenes. The ability to fine-tune from 3200K to 5600K is essential when matching ambient light during real estate shoots or shifting tones for different scenes in my films. The RGB functionality has been a creative goldmine for narrative work—I can quickly dial in vibrant hues to set mood, simulate sunset, or build contrast against practical lights. The eight preset lighting effects have even saved me time in post by allowing me to capture stylized effects practically on set. The app control has been a game-changer during solo shoots or tight-turnaround setups. I can make live adjustments to color temperature, hue, saturation, and brightness directly from my phone—especially helpful when the lights are rigged high or out of reach. While the app can sometimes take a moment to connect, the manual knobs on each panel are intuitive and reliable as a fallback. Battery compatibility is another major win—I've paired the kit with NP-F970 batteries for remote shoots, and the lights run for a surprisingly long time on them, which has opened up opportunities for location shooting without needing to hunt down outlets. In terms of real-world performance, the lights hold up beautifully even during long takes. I’ve run them for extended periods during interviews and walkthroughs without flicker or overheating. They’re especially effective in a three-point lighting setup—offering enough brightness to key and fill without washing out skin tones or overexposing reflective surfaces. For short films, the RGB feature allows me to create separation between subjects and background or add surreal color tones that elevate the look far beyond a typical budget setup. If I had to nitpick, I’d say the carry case could be slightly roomier—everything fits, but just barely—and the light stands do require sandbags or weights if you're extending them with barn doors open at full tilt. That said, these are minor trade-offs when you consider the feature set and price. Compared to lighting kits costing twice as much, the GVM 800D holds its own and has truly upgraded the quality of my productions without draining my budget. Great to light up a room with colour or evenly light a green screen. The light is pretty hard even with the defusion panel in place. DON'T LOOK INTO THE LIGHT...you'll definitely be seeing spots for a while. Lights were smaller than expected but have come to love them as it's super easy to tuck into corners or tight spaces while still producing crazy amounts of light. Cord length isn't an issue for me, they are what they are and they do the thing. Paired with some NP-F970 batteries I can take these light weight beauties on the road with me. They require very minimal effort to break down and pop into a case. Just gotta find something to defuse these with.

This light is incredible for a number of reasons. It has enough options to please anyone and operates like a high end piece of equipment but it's not complicated at all to use, in fact I would say it's a great investment for a Beginning User or Advanced either one and I love that it comes with the storage totes to carry the equipment easily. It's my personal favorite lighting for 2021. It DOES include the stand and it's a really nice stand, it's lightweight but still sturdy and easy to adjust. Fully extended it reaches about 7 ft tall from the floor and is nice and sturdy when you set it up. It comes with the doors attached but if you want to remove them, no problem! Personally I like it with the doors on but that's just a matter of choice. You will want to buy Sony NPF-550/750 batteries for it and then you can take it on the go and use it anywhere. It's User Friendly with so many different custom options it's near limitless and it puts off amazing quality lighting. Perfect for YouTube/Vlogging, Photography, Art Shows, Musical Performances, and so many more uses. It's rare that I get this excited about a piece of equipment but this one is Top Of The Line Quality and Affordable in Pricing. My two favorite categories to get in a product! If I had to choose a favorite option it would be the Police Car light and my second choice is the Candle Effect. I should also mention that the app works great and isn't "buggy" or hard to use. Overall ease of use also played a major role in my rating because while it might look complicated & techy at first glance it's actually very easy to use and provides professional looking lighting. For the video I used a dressed up statue set up against a common whiteboard and you can clearly see the natural lighting in the room versus the product lighting, there is a MAJOR difference! When you see the light go off in the whiteboard reflection the picture gets really grainy and when the lights are on it's flawless. I filmed this with a cheap $50 no-name camera so imagine the outcome with a better quality camera! I cycled through the preset lighting modes but you can completely customize any aspect of the lighting you want including speed of color change and you can create any custom color you like with the app. I am really considering purchasing a second one as a gift for my sister & Brother in law because they own a professional Music Recording Studio and this light would be perfect for them because they record music videos in and out of the Studio and this travels easily, especially if you use the optional batteries. *If this review was helpful to you then please let me know by hitting the Helpful button, Thanks!*

Overall, the product does its job. It is portable and easy to use. There is an application where you can control the different modes, brightness, colour and many other functions. However, it does not come with batteries, so you would have to purchase that on your own. Delivery took some time but it was during the peak of COVID-19, so it was understandable. Customer service is also responsive and helpful. All in all, highly recommended and you will not be disappointed.
