It allows me to sharpen my lathe tools consistently and in a much shorter time than it used to. Really really good! I'm relatively experienced at hand sharpening most tools but bowl gouges are particularly tricky. The system is great. It's quite the investment if you're still on the fence with how deep you're going to get involved with the hobby. Spend the money. My gouges are now razor sharp and all ground to the correct angle every time. As a result my turning has vastly improved. I can be part way through a bowl, gouge is getting a bit dull and I can throw it in the jig and have it back to sharp in under a literal minute. Set up and fettling took about an hour to fit my grinder, the instructions could be a little better but just take your time. I think the system is very well thought out and covers a multitude of sins in terms of what you want sharpened. I've only used it to put an Irish grind on a couple of my bowl gouges so far but will soon put all my various turning gouges and chisels to the wheel. I would recommend getting a CBN wheel for your grinder as they require less maintenance and will mean less time adjusting the set up between sharpenings. Just be careful not to burn the steel! All in all after 2 months of fairly regularly use I have nothing negative to say about the system and strongly recommend it. It works great. I did have to raise the base 1" above the mounting board. **Q: How far above the wood base do the grinder wheels have to be?** A: Minimum clearance above the base of the tool is 1.5 inch to the bottom of wheel guards on the grinder. If the base is close to the grinding wheel then you need 2.25 inch to clear the handle that clamps the tool holder to the base piece. My grinder is a Ryobi and I had to put a spacer block below it. Used a piece of 2 x 6, but had to be careful not to interfere with flanges on base. **Q: I saw Don Lewis's review and wonder if new (or improved) version of flatform is applied or not.** A: Have not seen this version in our shop yet. Still use the original production model! **Q: What are the instructions and settings for round nose scrapers?** A: This tool comes with a DVD and complete instruction manual written by people who use this tool. Pretty comprehensive for sharpening your lathe tools, found the instructions & online video helpful. Take your time setting it all up, I mounted it on a hardwood base 1 inch thick.
