Review: blue led issue || firmware upgrade not possible || no longer working :( - After less than 15 months, the blue led is no longer working, i found it's a known common issue related to losing the firmware and it doesn't have a solid fix. The mic is now useless. Samson has to find a way to refresh the firmware or provide a more reliable product .. very disappointed.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: meteor vs blue yeti?**
A: Whoa. The Yeti has the most powerful, full-bodied bass I've heard from any recording mic. If there's a Samson that can compare, it's more likely to be the C01 or the C02U rather than this relatively lightweight, introductory studio mic (which admittedly gets high ratings from pro reviewers). And above the above Samson's (both heavy, well-built mics) are the G-Track models (I'd look seriously at the black Pro version of the G-Track). One knock against the Meteor, which makes some sense to me, is that those built-in tripod legs are not always easy to position. In the studio, the announcer may find himself bending over at an awkward angle to hit the fat part of the diaphragm. The C01 and 2 work well with a floor stand or overhead arm.

**Q: Does this work on Windows 8?**
A: Yes it works with Windows 8. I am running Windows 8.1 Enterprise and it was just plug and play, no additional drivers needed. You may have to tell your computer or application what microphone you want it to use.

**Q: Does this work on Windows 10?**
A: Yes, I have been using it on Windows 10 for about a week.

**Q: Can this be used with ipad mini?**
A: Using Apple's Camera Connexion Kit for iPad ($26.99), I had no trouble connecting this microphone to my iPad. For your IPad mini, i believe you will need the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter (MD821ZM/A) ($29). HOWEVER, you should know that the microphone itself does not have a gain adjustment knob, so all the gain adjustment (matching the microphone sensitivity to how loud what you are recording is) must be done in the recording software you are using on the iPad. Many, but not all of the recording apps offer a gain adjustment control (Garage band does), and adjusting the gain in software is not always convenient. Some apps won't let you adjust the gain once you started recording. . . Practically speaking, if this is to record speech, it's a non-issue. On the other hand, if you are recording music (particularly loud music) you may want a "real" gain control knob. As far as I know, the only two microphones that have a gain knob AND work with iPads are the Spark Digital by Blue Microphones, and the Mic by Apogee; they are both $200 microphones. Hope that helps

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great sound quality! Tiny profile, but Big on the inside.
*by K***H on 10 June 2020*

I purchased this mic to use primarily in a home office while on WebEx/Zoom calls. Previously I was using a MS Lifechat LX3000 headset, and the mic quality was excellent. However as a senior member of a very technical team, I felt like a teenaged gamer wearing a headset on camera while my peers all used their integrated mics. Everyone agreed that I sounded much better than them, however I felt slightly less professional. Now with the Samson Meteor, it sits out of camera on my desk, facing me, and I don't have to wear an unprofessional headset anymore. My team says I sound even better than before, and because the cardioid pickup pattern really only captures the audio in front of the microphone, my household family noises aren't heard as much as before. The only drawback and it is a so tiny I almost don't want to mention it, the location of the mute button. All of the applications I use to hold remote meetings have their own mute function, but I don't like to use them, as I am sometimes looking at another window or typing on a CLI elsewhere, and don't want to have to "click" back into the meeting app and un-mute myself to make a comment. The MS Lifechat had an inline mute button and when I muted myself nobody on the call could tell, it didn't make a noise. The Meteor makes a tiny noise when you mute it, mostly because the mute button is located right below the mic pickup. A co-worker said they could hear it, but only when I specifically asked them to listen for it, as a test. Since then nobody has ever commented on the sound, and it's such a small thing to even bring up. All in all I am very happy with this microphone and would recommend it to anyone. My son uses a Blue Yeti and this honestly sounds way better, and it's half the size.
