There is a range of ideal settings for any brewing method, since light and dark roasts tend to fragment differently. For French press (coarse grind), I have had good results with 9-13 clicks from the finest setting (9=light roast; 13=French roast). For Melitta manual drip pour-over (fine grind), I get good results with 5-8 clicks, depending upon the bean. I used 7 clicks for a medium roasted Ethiopian bean the other day and brewed some of the best coffee I've ever had.
